Hike to Cloudbridge

It was so nice and comfortable in the cool of the morning up at the Roca Dura after being down in the heat and humidity of the coast so slow moving out of the bed but finally up and moving.

Headed up the road with the goal of making it to Cloudbridge and our favorite waterfall. Partly because we had a late start and partly because of the time of year, we did not see as many birds as we have in previous years.

Saw Katya and others bringing horses down from the property Luis and his family have that borders Cloudbridge. We found this out later from asking Luis about what was going on. We finally made it to Cloudbridge and sat and cooled off for a bit before heading up to the waterfall.

Hiked up to the waterfall and sat and enough the sounds and watched some birds flitting here and there near the base of the waterfall. The hike down of course was much faster and we stopped at the Talamanca Lodge for something to eat. Both had a great frozen batido of mixed fruit that was so refreshing.

Back to Roca Dura before the rain hit. Got ourselves packed up because the bus is at 7:00am and we wanted to be able to have a cup of coffee before we headed out. Went down for dinner and there was a guy from the nearby community of Los Angeles who was able to help us when our spanish broke down! He had lived in the United States for a time and was great with translating some of our questions.

Talked to Luis about the history of Roca Dura. He built it about 30 years ago and talked about some of the problems getting things done. Showed us a picture of what the place looked like then and they have made some changes especially in the food service area.

Paid for our stay because we were leaving early and Luis is leaving even earlier, 4:30.
