Bye Bye Skiurlaub Tirol, Hello Pura Vida! I wanted my first entry to be about my trip to St. Johann, Austria where I enjoyed some skiurlaub tirol with a bit of business on the side but while I was there I did not have time to sit in front of a computer. So, here I am currentyl staying at the Barcelo Palacio hotel overlooking the part of town called La Uruca and only minutes away from La Sabana which is where the company I work for has its headquarter located. I arrived in Costa Rica today around noon Costa Rica time. The small airport they use was pretty easy to navigate thru even though I had some problems meeting one of my co-worker who was waiting for me with a small 10x10 inch piece of paer ... read more

Today we drove into Escazu after Bill's dental appointment in the nearby town of Pavas. We wanted to visit the EPA store, the Costa Rican Home Depot to get ideas for the new house. At EPA we ran into another woman we know from the San Ramon area who'd come into the city with two other couples to shop at EPA and our version of Price Club, Pricesmart. It's a small country. I got in trouble for taking pictures of the orchids in the garden center. I hope you appreciate the pics Mom. Luckily, Bill didn’t understand what the lady said so he wasn’t embarrassed. We left EPA shortly after my scolding and decided to find a place to eat. With all the traffic Bill was thrilled we decided on a hot dog stand we'd eaten ... read more

Hello! I finally found the Internet, although it is painfully s l o o o o w w w w w. Today I had my first day of classes. Including me, there are a total of 4 students from the U.S. One of them is Chris, my housemate at Marias, and the other two are very nice guys from Southwest Texas, just like me. Their names are Scott and Paul, and today they saved me after class! They stopped by and asked me to eat with them. They shared a little about their experiences here, and have offered to keep me company. Paul leaves Friday, as does Chris whom I still haven´t met, Scott leaves next week, and then...all by myself :( The director here won´t give me a straight answer as to whether other students ... read more

Hola! I´m in Costa Rica now. I´ve finally found the internet, although the keyboard is different - if it -looks all messed up that´s because I feel like I´´m in kindergarten learning to read-spell-write for the -first time. Bear with me! -I arrived on Saturday morning safely, the flight went well. Costa Rica looks like a big green fuzzy -blanket - the mountains are big and beautiful, and covered in a carpet of trees and grass. It looks just -like a rainforest should! I have yet to see the oceans, but I should get my chance this weekend. -My host family is very very nice. Unfortunately, the room is a bit on the "rugged" side, shall we say, and -my allergies are in full bloom, so I will be moving to another home sometime today or ... read more
