Hola Hola

Today is my Friday! We have a free day tomorrow so we're all going into town. We have 4 classes today (again) so it will be nice to get a break. It only costs about $4 (american) to take a taxi into town but we'll be able to get rides from our guides here as well.

Today it started raining waaaaay earlier than usual - around lunch time. And last night it rained so hard that we couldn't hear our professor lecturing! I guess the roof is pretty thin. Even when it rains it doesn't get that cold, elevation is about 1000-1400m which is about 3300-4600 ft.

Getting used to living in Costa Rica I think - no flushing toilet paper, taking luke warm showers, and waking up at 5:30am with the sun. Las Cruces is very nice and there have been some tourists visiting from elsewhere in Costa Rica and outside the country. While our student accomodations are nice, I think the tourists get nicer rooms, etc.

Something I didn't realize before I got here was the the Botanical Gardens of Las Cruces is actually a garden. Everything was actually planted by the couple who founded the station in the 60s. So a bunch of the plants are non-native which is an issue in a couple cases. I guess there wasn't as much awareness about invasive species back then.

Hasta luego....
