After a good nights sleep (well 6 hours) we awoke to sunshine. We had an an early excursion at 7:20 to the Manuel Antonio International Park to see the wildlife. Lindsay and I went exploring for some type of breakfast as nothing is open until 7 and we needed to head out. We found a cafe down the street and managed to find good coffee and some light eats.
Picked up by our tour guide and heading off to explore. On the drive we went past a restaurant called Hot Dogs and Beer- think Sean and I will check that one out later!
The park is in a busy tourist area along the ocean and looked really cool. We started our tour with Jana and he was very informative. He had a scope that we all could look through to see the animals and take pictures. Our first sight was a tucan- which was apparantly lucky to see- however he was fighting with some birds so hard to get a picture. Next we saw a few rare birds and iguanas.
Julia was not feeling well so she was a drag- complaining and not at all interested. The rest were happy
and Sarah was at the front of the pack for the most part enjoying the tour.
We saw many cool animals including 2 toed and 3 toed sloths, howling monkeys and some rare birds. They howlers monkeys travelled in pacts up in the trees and we heard one of their fights (video attached). They are very territorial so they howl at each other until one group decides to move on. This type of fighting is considered very smart as they don't actually fight each other as they know they will not survive in the forest if they get hurt.
Half way thru the tour we stopped at the beach and had a rest, then off to see the remaining forest and animals. We came across two rock formations in the ocean- one that looked like a mans face with hairy ears and another shaped as a turtle.
We finished the rest of the tour and saw more animals included the masked frog, jesus christ lizard, rain frog, an owl of some sort, bats and of course some capuchi monkeys. They travel in heards from leader to baby so we were able to see plenty of them up close.
ended at a river that we had a choice to either jump across or walk across in a boat which some locals had set up for a small fee. We all jumped it successfully ( well Sarah was one foot short, and Julia being in the mood she was decided to walk across the boat.)
ten off for a snack at Marlin's restaurant of fresh fruit and a blackberry smoothie. Finally back to the hotel where Julia had her much needed nap.
Sean and I went down to the ocean for a quick lunch and some creveza's while kids hung out in the villa. then back for a nap and eventually got ready for dinner out. We have a great view from our roon of the ocean and a tree that has several monkeys at night. Way cool!
Dinner was at a local restaurant called Victoria's - Queno's #1 pizza place - are you getting the theme here? Maybe we are in Italy??
Off to bed and ready for a relaxing day at the beach tomorrow.
