All geared up
So this is me before I take off on the second zipline. So I asked around town in Santa Teresa where all the hostels were and came across Tranquilo Backpackers. There also one in San Jose, not exactly cheap but $10 a night on that peninsula was cheap.
After I settled in I borrowed some books and headed out to the beach. For the next few days all I did was sit at this resort called Luz de Vida cuz they had the hammocks on the beach. There was never anyone there using them so there would be days when all I did was sit from 11am till the sun set sometime at 5am. Every now and then I would get up and get in the water, then back to reading, then taking a nap or eating my snacks. My god it was soooo cool, I miss it already.
Well I figured when in costa rica you must go zip lining. I found a really cheap place in Mal Pais down the road at the entrance to the national park there. It cost me $30 to racing through the forest. I was the only one there and the guys giving the tour said we would have to hike to the top
Longest Zip
Here I am on my longest run. It was so much fun, and it goes so fast then suddenly your already there. "It tastes soo good once it hits your lips." of the forest since their truck wasnt working. I thought really on the day that I happened to be the only doing this.
So there we went up the mountain for an hour to reach the top. When I reached the top the guys were asking me if I was tired. My response was fuck no, I´m tired, I´m sweating like a mother fucker, I´m thirsty and all I want to do is stand in front of fan or take a cold shower. No, I´m not scared, but lets get on with this.
For those of you who have never done this, once your strapped on they explain the hand signs about stopping and going and all that. They tell you that at certain places you have to break with your right hand or you´ll crash into the platform cuz your going so fast. And if you cant get to stop with the right hand you have to use your left to add more pressure so that you can stop.
Then came, if you get stuck half way you have to climb backwards using both hands. And ofcourse there the sitting position that you have to cross
Got Stuck
So my retarded ass was always really anxious when I would get close to the end that I would break too soon and this happened to me often. your legs or you can also get turned around while zipping.
The first one was easy, but the second one was really far and it went through a big part of forest that one freak me out a little. But at that point there´s no turning back, so you say to yourself, fuck it, were already here.
The only time I did scream was at this one part that drops straight down. They just drop your ass into the trees and you dont know how fucken far down your headed, until the rope suddenly jerks and you can see the ground. It was cool.
I shared a room with all guys and by the time I would get back to the hostel at night my frenchy roommate would be on the guitar playing some Paris Combo tunes and smokin us all out. It was great to finally sleep.
I must warn you if you do come out here that the electricity along with the water have a funny way of going out all day. I remember one day I got up and the electricity was out and so was the water. The people in the town
Having to climb backwards
Ofcourse in order for you to get there the trick is not to look down. Otherwise you´ll never reach the end, even if its that close. kept saying they would be back by 4pm.
4pm came and went and were all sweating and salty ass all hell from the beach and hungry. But we cant take shower or cook and its 7pm and people are starting to get all crazy. Especially when the local store closed its doors and stopped selling beer then the shit hit the fan cuz it was a weekend and people wanted to be drunk. But there we were sitting around a candle telling stories about traveling and I was mostly doing all the talking.
I think around 9pm the water and power came back and people ran in 2 different directions. To the bathroom to shit and shower not in that particular order and to the store for beer.
This was my last night there and me and a few other decided to go off to the beach to drink at night, we were trying to find where the music was coming from. Well in our drunken retardness the 10 of us crashed some rich girls party and then got kicked out. Needless to say I woke up really early to a trash can near my head, fully
Backwards Zip
Yeah, I´m a retarded. They shouldnt of told me that I could break using two hands. clothed ofcourse and severly hung over.
Me and my new buddy Christian from Munchen, Germany left the hostel for our trip back to San Jose in really bad shape. Lets just say once I was on the bus I realized that I had left my passport back at the hostel and had to convince the driver to wait a few minutes while I tried to run back and get it. Not fun at all.
On the ferry back I tried to stick to Christian so that I wouldnt get sick looking at the water for an hour.
We made it safe to San Jose several hours later with our bags in tact and hailed a cab to the hostel. Cuz I was too retarded to remember how to get there on foot.
After we settled in and paid for our shuttle the next morning, we went in search for the $2 fried chicken. That felt sooooo good, and then we had a few beers back at the hostel and off to bed to get to the airport the next morning.
Well that whole weekend was a drunken blurr, it was funny though because in costa
Zipping through the forest
I think this was my last run. It was worth it. If you think about doing this while in costa rica research for cheap companies many will try to charge anywhere from $50-80 rica they werent selling beer all weekend due to elections on sunday. But we all managed to get drunk a bit pricey though.
So the next morning I get up at 4am cuz the shuttle leaves at 5am, cuz my flight to Panama was at 7am. Well I get there and I´m told the flight is overbooked and would I like to switch airlines and take another flight for $300 and free food. I was like, Hell yeah! So I waited very patiently buy very tired from very little sleep.
*I learned that when you book an international flight you should always ask what the taxes are for and what it includes. When I left Costa Rica the airport tax was $26 now it was supposed to be included in my flight but it wasnt. So if your on a budget like I am $26 is like loosing $40 its alot of money.
