We traveled from Manuel Antonio to San Jose and spent a couple of nights in the capital. The highlight was the pre-columbian gold museum. The exhibition was huge and displayed in a purpose built bank basements safe, so it was interesting just walking through the giant doors (imagining we were in the Thomas Crown Affair or Oceans 11 or 12). The gold was so intricate in its design from tiny pieces to huge ornaments and all produced from pouring molten gold into molds. They had examples of jewellery, ornaments, ceremonial pieces and an explanation of how they melted the gold with just wood for fuel. Hay un “continuará... “ que en el capitulo anterior de este blog se quedó ahí, con la mano levantada por mucho tiempo ...esperando a que viniese alguien a relevarlo, hoy tomo yo el testigo, le doy la mano y unas sandalias para que eche a correr. Ciertamente, teníamos en este blog una página en blanco, pendiente de completar, un capitulo sin terminar. Quizás éste sea el momento adecuado, el momento de cerrar círculos , de compartir estas fotos y contar un cuento y otras historias. El que suceda ahora es porque sin duda es el momento adecuado y es que estamos en momentos de cambios a nivel global, de re-evoluciones árabes , de #spanish re-evolutions y revoluciones europeas y también es tiempo de cambios internos. De klok rond geslapen, was nodig precies. t Heeft vanacht serieus gegoten.. om 7u opgestaan en een koude douche genomen,allee Nanna toch want het warm water liet op zich wachten tot KingZ eronder stond. (weer toffe elektrische douchekoppen dus: no tocar!!) Desayuno: panqueques en frutas frescas (hier doen we het toch voor) eens effe gaan horen voor wat uitstapjes maar blijkbaar werken de mannen hier morgen niet! Dus maar vette bikes gehuurd en beginnen pedalen richting Manzanillo in de broeiende hitte. De wegen waren op sommige stukken niet van hoogstaande kwaliteit en bij ieder putteke ging KingZ zijne zadel wat lager staan. De stranden zijn hier paradijselijk (zie foto) en de swell is nice. Last day in Gautemala… went up the Pacaya volcano. Amazing… we surfed, scrambled and fell over lava fields and rocks, We got ridiculously close to flowing lava.… my feet got hot, the soles of my trainers went sticky! We stayed till it got dark, it was somewhat dangerous, but a great experience. Just over the border to Copan, Honduras. Small colonial town, not as nice as Antigua. The people are quite different, very western…. No traditional dress at all. Mayan ruins also quite different from others we’ve seen. No tall pyramids but more carvings and statues. A small ball court with parrot heads instead of the rings seen on others. Saw a load of colourful parakeets and a few copabarries (dunno how to spell these). 6-7 hours travel to the island of Utila near the popular ... read more

My Rental Bike

Thursday morning I had slept well until a rooster woke me at 2:30 am. I did go back to sleep and was up and moving by 7am. I rented a bicycle and planned to pedal along the caribbean coast road to the village of Manzanillo. The road was completely dirt up to about 5 years ago. Now there are some nicely paved areas, some areas with potholes and areas where the road totally falls away to gravel. Remember my friend from the bus? She is from this village and must travel this road every day to get her physical therapy or drive over 4 hours to see her specialist. Die letzte Woche unserer Reise wollen wir gemütlich in der Karibik verbingen, am Strand chillen, uns von den Strapazen der letzten Wochen erholen, schnorcheln und nochmal ordentlich Bräune tanken, bevor wir in den österreichischen Winter zurückkehren... Leider hat uns hier (wie schon einigemale in der Karibik!!!) das Wetter einen ordentlichen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht... Wir kommen am Abend, nach einem ganzen Reisetag quer durch Costa Rica (von der Pazifikküste zur Karibikküste...) in dem 3-Häuserdorf Manzanillo an. Wie durch Zufall stolpern wir an einem wunderschönen, beleuchteten Haus vorbei (sieht eher teuer aus...). Lukas ist dafür, sich die Unterkunft trotzdem anzusehen und wir treffen auf 2 nette Holländer, die diese Cabinas erst vor kurzem eröffnet haben und Lukas handelt den Preis für eine Nacht von 30 auf 25 Dollar - wir bleiben! Limón, una tierra multicolor, de calor humano y una gran belleza, la semana pasada mi esposa Marielos y un servidor, decidimos tomarnos unas vacaciones y visitar a unos buenos amigos, Tito y Maty, ellos viven en Manzanillo uno de los pocos paraísos que aún no han sido infectados, por los Grandes Inversionistas y sus proyectos de gran envergadura.
