At last we were able to come back to Costa Rica, 2 years after the firs trip in 2005! Between the 2 trips visited some places in Quebec and in the states, (kentucky), but i really wanted to come back - Mi paraiso! We began by going to Carara national park, making sure to stop on the bridge over rio Tarcoles. One of the stop to easily watch a big group of Crocodiles. We then headed to Manuel Antonio park, a famous and small park, yet very interesting. Wildlife is easy to see here, at least the most popular ones. Moved south to Uvita and Marino Ballena park, and stayed in Uvita. The beach is superb, with the jungle in background! One entrance of the park leads to the Tombolo, a liitle strech of sand, when ... read more

Getting to Costa Rica was easy enough no hassle at the border crossing and for a change the border area was closed off to the public so only people crossing was aloud inside, this made it a lot easier as you didn’t get the usually people pestering you to buy this, that and everything and money exchangers pestering you to change your old currency with them, it was all nice an orderly and reminded me a lot of when your in an airport. A storey for you. As we were waiting for the bus to Liberia in Costa Rica. An American girl and English guy came over asking if we speak Spanish, so I pointed them to Michelle! They were a bit distressed, they had just put their bags into the luggage compartment on the bus ... read more

Our trip to Central America began as we flew in to Liberia, Costa Rica on Jan 31st. The airport is actually more like an open-air barn and it is only big enough to handle one flight at a time. James' Aunt Diane picked us up from the airport and drove us to her and John's home at Playa Hermosa on the Pacific Coast, about 20 minute's drive from Liberia. The house was amazing, 3 BR, 2 baths, hot shower, and a patio with a hammock and a view looking down the hillside to the Pacific Ocean. Although not part of the Villas Sol resort, it is on the same property and all the facilities were available to us. We took advantage of the shuttle to and from the beach which was about a 15min walk ... read more

Since the first travel blog we sent out on our first few days in Costa Rica did not include pictures (we did not publish them properly), and are included in this blog. Since we came back to the same place, I have included what we missed in this blog. Our last 4 days are spent back at Playa Del Coco at Rancho Armadillo, the estate we started our trip from. This place is great and our host/owner, Rick is terrific. Originally from Detroit, and a retired chef, he bought this estate over 7 years ago. He is well known by the locals as a great guy. He even sets up your tours for free. There are 3 bungalows that have a fantastic view of the pacific. The centre of the grounds you have the pool, bar, ... read more

I have officially lost my first battle with nature. After spending the last week and a half in San Carlos and trekking through multiple rainforests on more than 20 farms, the heat, mosquito bites, spider bites and poisonous plants have finally gotten the better of us. My 30+ insect bites have now turned into 89 welts that are driving me bonkers and Mike’s quick brush with fire ants have encouraged us to take a break from the woods. Don’t get me wrong. San Carlos is an awesome area. We’ve met some really great people and seen some beautiful sites, however San Carlos is quite a large area and we now know that the lowlands are probably not for us (Muelle, Santa Rosa, Buenos Aires, etc.). There is still hope however that the mountainous area around Juan ... read more

August 31, 2006 On CR time! 12:10pm Yup! I am now in Costa Rica! A hell of a delay at George Bush International Airport, Houston, but finally got off the ground. All total. 40 minutes on the tarmac! So the pilot punched it and we were only delayed 8 minutes into Liberia. And as things go, my ride was NOT here waiting for me, so all the rental car reps tried to rent me a vehicle, then the hefe for the taxis spoke up and said he get me a taxi for a mere $50 yup, welcome to CR! The rep at the hotel, said he would have charged $30...go figure. Got a picture of me in front of the Aeroporto Liberia, thanks to that Hefe(boss)...seems I looked funny trying to take my own. I got ... read more

I have been cuddling with a puma!! The last two weeks I've been working as a volunteer at the rescue shelter for felines and other wild animals that are taken care of because they are injured, mal treated or confiscated by the government. I saw a lot of animals I would never see in the wild and I learnt a lot about taking care of wild animals. Every day I fed the cats with beef, luckily I never had to feed them with the head.. Uuuhh... Most fun was going in to the jaguar Rafa's cage (while he was locked up in another cage), hide his food in the trees, and then let him run and find it. He loved it and it made me glad to see. I was also thinking of constructing toys for ... read more
