While memorial day is traditionally a day for remembering those who've passed, today I'm remembering those we left in the states.
Now that we have internet in the house I spent many hours browsing thru photos on the computer and uploading many onto our webshots site. I've only just scratched the surface so check back often for updates. http://community.webshots.com/user/jennifsh0701
It was fun looking back at the photos of the days leading up to our move. The hell we went thru getting ready to leave was definately worth it. I knew it would be, I just had to keep convincing everyone else to keep plugging along.
Looking back at photos of friends and family in the last few days in Arizona made me realize how lucky we were. For those who don't know, we weren't the kind of family that had company over all the time. We kept to ourselves for the most part and lived our lives quietly. For third grade Callista attended a Waldorf school that required us to come out or our shells. Thanks to those friends who without knowing helped us to grow both personally and as a family in our time there. We treasure our
memories of the camping trips and many, many, many school activities. I say this now while they are all sighing a great sigh of relief as the school year has just ended and they can relax for a couple of months before a new hectic year begins.
Callista's fourth grade began at our neighborhood public school, Aguilar Elementary in Tempe. We formed a lifelong bond with her teacher, Mrs. Montoya who made sure Callista was a part of the class up until the last day of school. The class sent letters and other surprises to her over the last several months. They read the blog and learned about Costa Rica thru maps and other information Callista sent to them. We were surprised and thrilled last week to receive a copy of the yearbook with quite a few pics of Callista even though she had only been there a few months. How special that made her feel! The class was very excited to receive a phone call from Callista on the last day thanking them for the letters and wishing them an awesome summer.
Our final days in the country were spent relaxing with Bill's son, Scott and his
Friends
Friends on South Mountain hike. family (Kelly and Libby) in San Diego. We drove from Arizona to L.A, shipped our stuff and headed to Scott and Kelly's for a couple of days of rest and relaxation. We all needed it! Thanks again Scott, Kelly and Libby for welcoming and comforting us in very stressful times. It was truely the first time in months that we felt completely relaxed and stress free. I don't have to tell anyone how touching it was to see father and son say their final good-byes.
Our lives in Costa Rica are very different than in the states for more than the obvious reasons. We've learned to open ourselves up more and live for the day. Many who know us will be surprised to hear the most weekends we have company at the house. Sometimes invited other times drop in guests. We've met two people thru the blog so far, well one man and a family. One man hoping to move down in a few months and a family living in another town near us for on a year and half adventure. We're looking forward to meeting another family in the near future also on an extended adventure. Anyone else
Aguilar Elementary
We had a pizza party in Callista's classroom for her last day. who is planning a trip, shoot us an email and we'd be happy to tell you all about our area.
Now that I've gotten some sleep and we've had the internet for a week the novelty is starting to wear off. Ok, that's a lie! We all love it and wouldn't give it up for anything. We've also discovered SKYPE which enables us to call family and friends ANYWHERE for just pennies. If the other person has Skype as well the call is free. I encourage all of you to check our their website www.skype.com if you ever want to Skype us here's our ID: crsheridan06
For those of you thinking of us on Memorial Day as one's who've gone..... you now know that we still think of you and hope you'll feel more connected to us thru our webshots pages and possibly thru the use of Skype.
Ok... I've really got to do some schooling with Callista now. Bill doesn't like it when I try to take time off for U.S. holidays here in Costa Rica. I think he's just jealous because in Costa Rica Father's Day is the same as in the states so he
doesn't get TWO!
Pura Vida,
Jennifer, Bill and Callista
