12/28/08, Sunday - At leisure in Grand Cayman.
The resort has an intro program on Sunday morning at 9:30, with refreshments and activity vendors visiting. No cereal or muffins this year, just juice and coffee. There is more staff here than at the first place we stayed. There’s a lobby with a desk that is staffed until 11 p.m., some groundskeepers working throughout the day, an activities director, a restaurant and bar. The host this morning said he is the new manager, named Mike. Vendors included the on-site dive shop/tour arrangers, Pampered Ponies (horse rides), waverunner/kayak concession out by the water, and our favorite, Gilbert “Big Joe” who always brings along a couple of iguanas and tells us about his shop and services. DGS got to hold the large iguana for a long time, and also the small one at the same time, after the program was over, which gave him lots of attention from other people, to whom he announced that he is going to be a herpetologist (an interest for a long time for him).
After that we had brunch in the room (hot turkey sandwich) and then went out to the pool area. Rays for DD,

North Sound on Grand Cayman pool for DGS, and puttering around for me - it’s extra windy today and the water is pretty rough. There isn’t really a beach per se along the water here, but I checked it out, sometimes there are fish visible along the dock. Waded out a ways with my aqua shoes on. The pool seemed too chilly to me, so I didn’t go in, but toasted a little. I have no need to work on a tan, being well aware of the bad effects from sun, not only cancer, but drying skin and wrinkling. I did soak up a little Vitamin D - which is now being touted as good for even more things.
After another room and balcony break, we headed out to go to the beach; it’s less windy on the Seven Mile Beach side. Spent a couple of hours at Cemetery Beach, which is probably our favorite. It was busier than we’ve seen it before, but not at all crowded. Lots of different fish close into short. The sergeant majors (little yellow and black striped guys) and a silvery usual-looking fish really swarm for the fish food. Spent most of the time there snorkeling, and I
did some floating using the “cubed” noodle that I got at the warehouse store not too far from here. It’s changeable in size and shape, and may take the place of a vest for me and be much easier for traveling. A flotation device isn’t really needed here; people don’t sink in salt water, but I feel more comfortable with one.
More turkey and veggies for dinner - got through today without spending any money - love having a kitchen in the timeshare. And we also have a washer/dryer (which most timeshares we have stayed in do have) so we’re caught up on laundry and can also rinse out and dry the beach towels. We have a one-bedroom, with a “lockoff” studio for DD and DGS, so we have a total of ten beach towels which is nice. The studio also has a full bath, and a mini-kitchen, and its own balcony because it can be used separately unlike the two-bedroom unit we had last week. It does mean that we have to pay the $10 per night room tax for two units, though. There doesn’t seem to be an energy surcharge here so it balances out, I guess.
A typical fun, leisurely day in paradise again today, sigh!
