Thursday night and Friday: Well okay, the evening didn't go as planned. We put burgers and dogs on the barbie and ended up with only dogs for dinner....the burgers fell apart and ended up in the charcoal. No biggie, we still had plenty of food and drinks. I faded fast and went to bed around 9pm whilst everyone else stayed up and watched TV. I was up early Friday morning and couldn't wait to get back to the book I started reading here...”Body Surfing” by Anita Shreve. We headed to Ivan's Stressfree after breakfast and had our first “BananaWhackers”...yum! The boys went back to the villa to retrieve our koozies and dice to play Greed. It was the perfect time for Lisa and I to blow up “the girls”...the sexy flotation devices we got online for ... read more

Wednesday night and Thursday: Grilled lobster dinner on the beach, Wednesday night at One Love was incredible. There were about 30 of us for dinner and were seated at tables with flickering LED candles. Tiki torches lit up the beach all the way down to the West end of White Bay. Our food was delicious and dessert well, words just can't describe the key lime pie and Dolce de Leche cheesecake. We went to Foxy's to upload the blog and have a few post dinner cocktails. The place was pretty dead...no rope man. Today, Thursday was our rent -a- dingy day....this was a disaster last year and we hoped not to have a repeat. The weather today was perfect...blue sky and calm seas....but as usual, no guarantees. We drove to Foxy's Taboo to pick up our ... read more

Well we're trying a different format today. We've decided to work on the blog text during the day and then upload text and photos when we get to the bar. Yesterday we awoke to a beautiful cloud free day. We had white caps in White Bay and spent the day on the beach at One Love. Lisa and I voted to go to the Bubbly Pool but were over-ruled by the guys. It was their day to drink and be laid back.. We watched all the day sailors come in mostly on catamarans. A whole lot more boats than this time last year, so that's great for the local economy. We had cocktail hour on the porch while playing GREED...Leeenda kicked butt. We cooked dinner in...6' flamed charred chicken, salad and roasted potatoes washed down with ... read more

ok well this is how it starts. We made it just fine from Hartford to San Juan and then it all went to hell. Our plane to take us to Tortola had a problem with the auto pilot computer and we had to de-plane. Please tell us why we need auto pilot for a 30 minute flight!!!! We were delayed 2 hours and made it to the last ferry to Jost Van Dyke with minutes to spare. Our groceries went over on the 4 pm boat...all 14 boxes...so we didn't have to deal with that. We walked downhill to have dinner at Foxy's...the red snapper was out of this world. Rope man was there...we confirmed it was him with the fish handshake. At around 11:00 after a VERY long day of travel, then dinner, drinks (the ... read more

Tomorrow we head for Jost Van Dyke for two weeks of fun in the sun...God willing and the creeks don't rise! Fred, Linda, David and Lisa are going back to White Bay Villas because we had too much fun there last year. Our home will be the Hillside Villa named Banana. We hope to go fishing with Uncle Wendell, visit the Willy T, snorkel at Norman Island and spend a day on St. John with our friends Julie, Robert and Hannah. Wish us luck...and them too!... read more

Saving the best for last...our British Virgin Island boat trip ended at Jost Van Dyke Island where the Soggy Dollar Bar lives. The Soggy Dollar gets it name since you have to swim from your boat to get there. They have a clothes line along the bar to dry out wet dollar bills. The Soggy Dollar Bar is the creator of the Pain Killer drink. We also did a quick snorkel stop on our way back to St. John.... read more

We continued our trek through the British Virgin Islands by sailing over to Jost Van Dyke. This was one of the islands we stopped at last year, yet our time here was brief. Too brief, like only a few hours on shore to eat lunch and check out of customs and immigration. Which is certainly not enough time to explore any island, in my opinion. So we were excited to return and spend more time there. Besides, our good friend Brian and Stephanie told us about all the great anchorages and some really cool things to do on the island. In fact, it is one of their favorite islands in the BVIs. So it became our next destination. Our first anchorage we visited was called Little Jost Van Dyke, on the eastern end of the island. ... read more

Unfortunately we decided to leave the BVIs after our brief 3 day visit. There were many reasons why we cut our time there short, but mainly it was due to weather (as sailors we live and die by the weather and when a good weather window develops- you take it or wait for the next one, which can easily be 2-3 weeks later). Besides, we were tired of the crowds and ready to explore new islands and anxious to get farther south, one step closer to Trinidad which will be our final destination for hurricane season which is rapidly approaching. But before we could set sail we first had to make a quick stop at Jost Van Dyke. Not only do you have to clear into customs and immigration as you travel throughout the Caribbean, but ... read more

Here we are...Had a beer at Foxy's yesterday and a hamburger, Dad had Conch fritters, and then I had another Presidente for George, incidentally George, you owe me 4 bucks, you asked me to have a beer for you...hehehe While waiting on lunch, long wait, M walked out towards the beach, spoke to a local, he told her a cute story...There is this huge black dog on the beach, a local dog, he asked me if I knew which brand he was. Sure he is a black labrador, he says do you know his name? I said NO. He replies his name is Taboo. Do you know what Taboo means? I said sure. He prods me asking what the meaning is. Now I say to myself, I am being set up. Hmmmm, sure, prohibiting, evil, bad...He ... read more

At roughly 8 square kilometers, Jost Van Dyke is the smallest of the four main islands of the British Virgin Islands, the northern portion of the archipelago of the Virgin Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Jost Van Dyke lies about 5 miles to the northwest of Tortola and 5 miles to the north of Saint John. Little Jost Van Dyke lies off its eastern end. Like many of the neighboring islands, it is volcanic in origin and mountainous. The highest point on the island is Roach Hill at 321 meters (1054 ft). The most frequent mooring destination is Great Harbor (or Great Harbour). The beach strip around the harbour is lined with small bars and restaurants. Since the late 1960s, Foxy's Bar in Great Harbor has been a popular stop for Caribbean ... read more
