We awoke this morning with the hopes of being able to do a little snorkeling but the rains that had started last night continued on to this morning. Troy and I braved the muddy streets in the pouring rain and made our way over to Ragamuffin to cancel our spots on that day's snorkeling tour. After putting our names down for tomorrow's snorkeling trip, we walked back to the hotel and encouraged everyone else to do the same. A group of us made our way over to Amor Y Cafe, a popular local spot for breakfast. I ordered a delicious ham and pineapple breakfast sandwich and in contrast to our experiences at other restaurants in Belize, the service here was amazingly quick. While we were eating, the clouds opened up yet again for another torrential downpour. This was supposed to be Belize's dry season but you would have never guessed it. Once the rain subsided, we tried to explore the island for a bit but the huge puddles in the roads and all the mud made for a miserable situation. Instead we all just retreated back to our rooms to ride out the rain. Around noon, the rains had finally let
up and Melanie, Troy, and I ventured out for a bit of exploration. We walked around Caye Caulker's main street still muddy after all the rains. Eventually, we arrived at the end of the island at the Split. The Split is Caye Caulker's most popular hang out spot with visitors enjoying beers from the Lazy Lizard bar while soaking up some sun. The 3 of us just sat on one of the docks along the water's edge. I can tell that they were a little bored because I definitely was as well. Unless you're out scuba-diving or doing something on the water, there really isn't a lot to do on Caye Caulker. After about an hour of sitting around, we ran into Manfred who was also wandering around. The 4 of us walked over to a small place called Meldy's for lunch where I had a lobster soup. The whole time during lunch, something was just off. I didn't know if I was getting sick but I just wasn't feeling okay. After lunch, we retreated back to the hotel where I threw up and was having some unexplicable anxiety. I decided to go outside for some fresh air when I
ran into Manfred who asked me if I was interested in going with him on a hike around the island. The hike and fresh air would definitely help me deal with whatever anxiety I was going through. Our goal was to hike down to the southern end of the island as far as we could go and perhaps completely hike around the island. Hiking in my flip flops we hiked along a muddy trail along the shoreline going as far south as the airport. Eventually, the trail got to a point where the mud was no longer manageable so we decided to turn back around. It was a good bonding time for Manfred and I where we discussed our past travels especially in Germany, his native country and my place of birth. For dinner tonight, we all accepted Daniel's recommendation and he brought us to this place which seemed to be ran out of someone's front yard. Having had stomach issues since lunch time, I chose not to eat dinner. Instead, I hung out with everyone while I munched on granola bars and judging by everyone's reaction, I appear to have missed out on quite a delicious meal. After dinner,
most of the group headed to the rooftop of our hotel to hang out and drink away the night.
