View out of our window at Ruby's Hotel Today we got up and packed up all our stuff. We got a ride into town from Theo. She dropped us off right by the bus stop and told us about a small bakery to try if we wanted some snacks for the bus ride. We picked up a couple of pastries and waited about 5 minutes for the bus to show up. It was an express bus to Belize City which was a much faster ride than the one we took going into San Ignacio. It only took about 2 hours to get to Belize City, and made only a few stops as opposed to stopping every 10 feet or so.
When we got to the bus station we took a taxi to the water taxi station. We bought our tickets for all our water taxi rides (Belize City to San Pedro, San Pedro to Caye Caulker, and Caye Caulker back to Belize City). We had to wait about 45 minutes for the boat to show up, but we had some nice cold sodas and the time passed quickly.
We got on our water taxi, and it took about 80 minutes because it stopped off at Caye Caulker first. The

The main street. Cayes are nice - very tropical and Caribbean feeling. It was really hot and humid out when we got here. Luckily our hotel was only about 2 blocks away from the water taxi dock, though we got super sweaty just walking those two blocks. We are staying at a small place right on the beach called Ruby's Hotel. It's nothing glamorous, but it's got an ocean view, a small balcony, private bath and an A/C all for a pretty cheap amount. The bed is okay, but the sheets are incredibly scratchy/stiff. I have no idea what they did to make them so uncomfortable! The hotel also has nice communal patios/decks on each floor and a small check in booth that sells soda and beer.
It was about 3p and we decided to go get a quick snack for a late lunch. We went to Celi's Deli which was close by and on the main road. We picked up some small meat pies and a tiny chicken taco. It was all really tasty and hit the spot. We also stopped by a pharmacy to see if we could get some anti-itch cream or gel. All they had was calamine lotion, so

Adam with our food we bought some to give it a try. We did some research about where we wanted to stay on Caye Caulker and took a nap.
In the evening we walked along the water for about an hour just seeing what was around. You can definitely tell that it's the quiet time of year. There are not a ton of people around, the restaurants aren't very full and some of the places are closed for a month or so until it gets to a busier time of year. A lot of the dive shops were open and you could tell they really wanted business from the tourists that were staying here. Adam picked one randomly and got the guy to take off $10 US from a snorkeling trip tomorrow morning.
San Pedro also has some pretty nice resorts along the water. We walked by Ramon's Village and The Phoenix, which both looked really upscale and nice.
We decided to eat at Blue Water Grill, which my cousin had recommended. It's a nice restaurant on the beach. We shared a lobster corn chowder, lobster & shrimp ceviche and a Hawaiian style ahi poke salad with avocado & ginger. It was all good,

the beach but the salad was really great. During dinner Adam felt something poke his arm, and was looking down in the bushes to see what it was. It turned out to be some kids hiding in the bushes and harassing us. They kept poking Adam and started poking both our feet. It was pretty amusing.
After dinner we walked back and took some much needed showers. We decided to try out our calamine lotion and counted our bites while we applied it. We have over 240 between us, and the lotion isn't magically making them go away.
Tomorrow we are leaving at 8:45a to go snorkeling at two different places. It should be a lot of fun.
