We loved our time in Cat Island but it was time to move on. The glorious weather we have enjoyed due to the high pressure ridge positioned just north of us was about to come to an end, with a big cold front predicted and thus gale force winds and big seas all the following week. So we set sail, taking advantage of the SE trade winds for once, and crossed the Exuma Sound to the Staniel Cay area. We have spent the last 3 weeks in this area, re-visiting our favorite sights and entertaining our family who came out for a visit- what fun! We snorkeled thunder ball cave and feed the many fish there, we anchored out in the city of boats off Big Majors where we get to enjoy the antics of swimming ... read more

We arrived back in Georgetown on February 15th after a smooth sail with 10-12 knot following seas from Long Island, Bahamas. The harbor in George Town seemed to grow by another 50-60 boats while we were gone. There is a big event called George Town Regatta in early March and many boats in the Bahamas attend every year. Some years as many as 400 boats are anchored in the harbor at this time. While we were in Long Island we did not have access to email, so when we got back we checked our messages and found an email from Julie requesting that we call her as soon as possible. While on their vacation to Maui Julie and Dan became engaged. On Valentines day morning, they went to see the sunrise from the top of the ... read more

Jacksonville--The Departure It is funny how things work out sometimes. Neal and I planned our cruise last year for Feb 4 because we planned on getting married on Feb 2. But in a whirlwind of unexpected events, we ended up tying the knot last year, and taking the cruise just weeks before we leave for Korea (which should be around March 1). We drove down to Jacksonville, FL the night before and stayed downtown at the Omni Hotel. What a beautiful city. It was pretty eerie how abandoned and quiet it was, I guess because it was a Sunday night, We ordered room service which was great because they had Argentinian food! It was the most gourmet meal I'd ever had, and was muy delicioso ;) . There was also a heated pool on the roof, ... read more

Mike and Bridget flew in with Woody and Tammy and we headed South through the Exumas. We Stopped at Normans Cay and had a wonderful dinner at MacDuff's. The next morning we snorkeled the plane wreck and ate lunch at Wardrick Wells. That evening we spent the night at Staneil Cay and befriended the entire island. We attended the Valentine Festival at the public beach and headed off for the pigs. We enjoyed feeding the pigs and Woody and I found a nice lobster for dinner. After lunch and dinner was in the boat we went swimming in Thunderball Cave. We swam in and out and in and out and had a great time. Woody and i headed to the top of the cave to jump off. it was a great day and we decided to ... read more

Race to Long Island After being anchored in Georgetown since mid-December, we decided to participate in the 1st annual George Town to Long Island Regatta that was sailed on Thursday February 7th. This was planned as a “fun race” from the cut at the south end of Elizabeth Harbor to the North tip of Long Island at Cape Santa Maria, a distance of about 30 miles in the open waters of Exuma sound. Depths here range from 500- 2000’ and the water is a deep, deep blue. The winds were a little above the predicted 15 knots from the southeast, which provided for a very tight close reach for the length of the course. After crossing the starting line I engaged the auto pilot and put out the fishing lines. After all, this was supposed to ... read more

Working in the Bahamas is actual work, no one believes that but we spend 5 some times 6 days a week working on the boat. There is alot of cleaning that goes on just to keep her up. But the days off are pretty great. We have made many friends down here. Ben is a fellow capt. from Florida that runs a 42' Saber, and he stays in the boss's house and has a 26' Regulator to use. We decided to take off one morning to try and catch a fish or two. We left the dock at 6 am and trolled for a five hours with only one hit. We did see giant sunfish! It looked like a white VW Beetle underwater. After trying to circle around and get a good view she dove to ... read more
