Me and a Dolphin
Swimming with dolphins at Dolphin Encounters on Blue Lagoon Island. Day 2!
I was awake bright and early (who wouldn’t be?), so I went out on our balcony for a couple minutes. It was warm outside with a nice breeze and you could see the entire property as the sun rose. Then I went back inside and finished my first sketch. Then my aunt and uncle woke up and I quickly changed and got my stuff together for the day.
We decided to go to the Waters Edge restaurant for a buffet style breakfast. It is located in the coral towers part of the hotel and is right next to the lagoon pool and an artificial shark lagoon. The food was pretty good for a breakfast meal.
After that, we walked to the entrance to the hotel to find directions to the ferry terminal, where we got our tickets and got on the ferry to go to blue lagoon and do the dolphin encounters program. First you must get a quick briefing on the dolphins and how to interact with them in a way that is comfortable and then you split up into smaller groups and go outside for the swim. It was absolutely amazing! I would recommend
it to anybody in that area. The trainers are friendly and it was a once in a lifetime experience I will never forget.
After the swim with the dolphins, we spent a bit of time in the gift shop and then we got on the ferry and went back to Paradise Island. Before heading back to the resort we ate lunch at Anthony’s Caribbean Grill which is just off the Atlantis property. The food was okay it was pretty much just American food though.
Once we finished our lunch, we headed back to the hotel and put our stuff on a couple of chairs near the Mayan Temple Pool. My Aunt and I decided to go find the library and send a couple of emails. We found it near the Waters Edge restaurant in the Coral Towers.
After sending the emails, we headed back outside and found ourselves wandering around and getting lost for the first time out of many to come on the trip, but we didn’t care. We found ourselves at the entrance to the Predators Tunnel. It is another of the amazing marine exhibits at Atlantis. At the end of the viewing tunnel we
were underneath the Lagoon Bar and Grill. My aunt and I climbed the steps to the top and out to the lagoon to get our bracelets for the day, realizing that we told our uncle we would be back quickly.
We walked along the lagoon and found him there with all of our stuff, so we swam and played with some of Neptune’s Water Toys for a while. We had lots of fun and after awhile my uncle told us that he had negotiated (a big thing in the Bahamas) with the wave runner people on the beach and got us a deal. So we went and used the wave runners for a half hour.
They were lots of fun and afterwards we decided to swim at the beach, because we were right there. Unfortunately, the waves were breaking right at the shore, so we immediately tumbled. We finally emerged from the water covered from head to toe with sand, our bathing suits stuffed. So we took a quick rinse at an outdoor shower and then finished getting cleaned off in the Roman Baths Pool.
We hung out there and at one point we thought we saw Selma Hayek and either Pierce Brosnan or Woody Harrelson on the balcony of the bridge suite. They were there for the press junket of their new movie After the Sunset. My Aunt tried to zoom in with her video camera and see if it was them, but she couldn’t hold it steady and kept losing them.
It was reaching dinner time so we changed and headed for Mama Loo’s. Mama Loo’s is a Chinese restaurant in the hotel. Then I was going to go to Club Rush, but it was closed, because it was a holiday. Instead, my aunt and I went shopping and got lost near the cabanas for the second time during the trip, while my uncle went to the casino. Later my aunt joined him and I went back up to our room.
In the room I started a new sketch this one was of the Lagoon Bar and Grill. I flipped through the channels on the tv to see if any other making Atlantis shows were on and there weren't so I went to sleep.
