Just can't get over the colors here- the deep blue water gives way to turquioise and the pink sand beach is accented with green shrubs. So beautiful!
We have often been asked, “What is your favorite island in the Caribbean?” This is a very difficult one for us to answer because we love many different islands for many different reasons. Some islands have great cultural and historical interest, others have great shopping and restaurants, some are great for exploring because of the natural wonders both above and below the sea, and yet others are just a peaceful getaway. So we struggle to find just one answer. But for us, there is no doubt that our favorite beach in the entire Caribbean is Barbuda, a tranquil island that is 27 miles north of Antigua. You probably have never heard of Barbuda because in the latest survey, it was ranked as the seventh least known holiday destination in the world. There is literally no tourist industry here, no big hotels or resorts, just miles and miles of undeveloped pink sand beach. Holy cow! Is this a well kept secret or what? It is in fact one of the greatest undiscovered islands in the Caribbean and heaven on earth, especially if you love long walks on the beach.

So we sailed up from Antigua and anchored off of the beach.

The beach goes on forever!!! Well, not really... just 11 miles.
This was the first time all year that we had the anchorage to ourselves- nice! And the beach looked beautiful, even from our boat. But what is truly amazing is how long this beach really is, we couldn’t even see where it starts or where it ends- it just goes on and on. In fact, the beach on the West Coast of Barbuda runs the entire length of the island and is over 11 miles long. Think about that for a moment. If we decided to take our dinghy to one end of the beach and walk all the way to the other end, turn around and walk all the way back, it would be equivalent to a marathon. Now that’s what I call a long walk on the beach!!! We knew we weren’t going to walk that far, but we were still excited to go ashore. Lo and behold, the sand there is really pink! And we had a great time walking and swimming and playing at the beach. What’s truly amazing and quite rare in the Caribbean is that we had it all to ourselves, miles and miles of beach with not another soul around. No wonder why

seriously
Seriously, Travis and I also sailed to Barbuda with Don. We believed we were also the only ones there, when lo and behold on our long walk on the beach we ran into an umbrella on the beach and as we got closer we could slowly make out a naked man on top of a naked woman! Yikes!!! Needless to say, we turned around and quickly walked the other way!
