This glacier trail has been on my mind since we did the Bernina pass trail last year. The beautiful glacier is visible right from the train and is very inviting. There is a higher trail that leads to a hut at 2500m which gives great view of the glacier, and there is a flatter trail in the valley along the river. Given that it was hot and snow was gone, high trail was clear winner. Its an easy trail, good amount of elevation gain and great views of the glaciers along the Bernina peak and its neighbours. There are couple of nice waterfalls along the way. Some of the trail looked like had suffered recent damage and been rerouted. From the high point we saw people on the lower trail actually touching and walking to the ... read more

I don't remember where I first heard about Lake Plitvice, but it has been on my list for a while. My mother's trip was perfect excuse to go there. I decided to spend 2 nights at the lake to give us enough time to enjoy the lakes and relax. We stayed at Guesthouse Sven - it is about 5 min walk from the Entrance 1, great location and nice house. We had a room which balcony from where we could see part of a waterfall. It was a nice stay. We reached there around 5:15pm. After settling in we decided to take a stroll to the park and enquire about what to do. The park was quite close at this time, and no information. Next day morning we started early at 7:00am to enjoy the park ... read more

We arrived in Zagreb at 11:00pm by train from Vienna. Border crossing into Croatia was easy, no issues with Swiss resident permit and Schengen visa. I had taken a apartment 5min walking from the train station - Carla Studio Apartment. The very nice owner was waiting there for us to hand over the keys. Nice apartment, though we would spend just the night there and leave early in the morning. Today's plan was to see a couple of small museums and then off to Lake Plitvice at 15:00. First stop - Museum of Illusions. It is a small museums with games and some optical illusion exhibits. The entry of 40Kuna is a bit steep for such a small place, but we enjoyed it very much. Time spent - 1 hr. Next stop - Museum of Croatian ... read more

Today we only had half a day in Vienna, and after that train to Zagreb in afternoon. We started the day by going museum quarters area. I thought of seeing the Volks Garden and some buildings there. Once there I remembered that this is where we finished the marathon couple of years back. One of the good runs. The volksgarden first appeared closed. So we walked around and saw the other buildings in the area. Then on way back, I realised there is another proper entrance to the garden. We found it and vola! It is such a beautiful garden. This was perfect time for roses, and there were roses everywhere. I wonder if there is such a place in Zurich that I am missing. Unfortunately we did not have lot of time to spend here ... read more

The Vienna trip started with overnight train from Zurich. The train ride was comfortable and uneventful. I had a packet of mozzarella that was going to spoil, so I was carrying it with me to use for breakfast. It survived the train journey. Once at Vienna train station, we were a bit lost. We were at the other end of train station, and the main station building was somewhere in the middle. At the main building we bought a 48hr unlimited ticket to make it easy to travel around. Our hotel was one station away, and still it was complicated figure out which train gets there. Vienna has 4 different (maybe 5) train systems. At the main station there are multiple levels and different trains go from different levels, and no proper map. After making couple ... read more

Reaching Johannesburg on 9th morning at 11:00, we headed straight to get the rental car. The person that helped us at budget/avis counter was not very nice. He would not explain anything about insurance or other stuff even after asking, when saying anything kind of mumbled it. Could not hear us at all, kept saying "sorry sorry" to make us repeat what we are saying - while the lady at other counter was actually able to hear us. Finally we did manage to get a car we wanted and drive off with it. The start was a bit confusing and we started off in the wrong direction first. Thanks to GPS though, it did not take too long to realise that, and then return and off to right freeway. The drive towards Kruger is nice, the ... read more

Today was the day of wining and dining. We had booked a group tour with yourafricastory. Bruce the owner is really nice guy, he has done so many things in his life, very interesting to talk to. Today we had a small group of six people. We started our day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge. I had muffin and poridge. Then it was off to wineries outside of cape town. The first place we stopped was big winery with cheese tasting also. Here we talked a bit about different wines and how to taste. We tried about 7 wines here, and a lots of cheese. I wish I could buy something here, but we were going to fly domestic soon with no checked bag. Some of the cheese were really good here. Next it ... read more

Landed in cape town today after a 11 hour direct flight. It is far! I decided to take the bus, so thought I needed to exchange some money. There was a long line at the bank, and it was slow going. They told me they charge a fixed 164 Rand fee for exchange, which was like 4%. Bus was easy to take, though the lady there sold me one trip ticket at extra cost of 35 Rand. So two surprises already. Rest of the trip was fine, easy to find the lodge. It is a nice Lodge iKhaya, with direct view of table mountain. Nice location. The rest of the day I wanted to spend walking around, feeling the new country, new continent. This place though does not feel like it, does not seem to have ... read more

Winter in Swiss Alps is awesome. If you ski, it is an equal contender for summer in Swiss Alps. I don't ski, and for last few years I have been taking winter as time to relax, remove the cobwebs from house, repair the gear and get ready for next summer. Though last year I decided to venture out on some snow shoes, and decided to do even more this year. 1. Friday December 25, 2015 - Zermatt - in search for snow this season 2. Wednesday December 30, 2015 - Ristis - Brunnihutte, Engelberg - A summer hike in winter 3. Snowshoe hike near Chur - Dreibundenstein 4. Sunday February 21, 2016 - url=http://tulika-... read more
