worried!!!! Hi! Just found your blog as I was looking for some info/memories from my time in Fukushima-shi at the Fukushima English Center (2000).
I really hope all those people will be ok!!!! It looks bad!
I used to go to Namazute a lot with friends and it's cool to see your pictures.
Let me know if you have any information about what is going on there right now. ARE YOU THERE RIGHT NOW???
fuji rock Hi There, I'm going to Fuji Rock 2010 for the first time and do you know if you can camp there on the Sunday night too? thanks in advance! Mit xo
Definitely go to Mutiyanu. It's virtually crowd free. Worth the cab ride, and the driver will wait 2-3 hours for you to explore the wall. Three hours was enough for us to walk in both directions of the wall, but I easily could have spent more time there. Have fun!
Gotta go there now! I stumbled across this while researching the Great Wall, since I'll be going there in February with my girlfriend... We had decided to go to Beijing to see that section of the great wall, but I completely changed my mind after seeing this wonderful article! I'm going to talk to her later to see what she thinks, it shouldn't be a problem since neither of us really like crowds, this looks like THE perfect place to see the Great Wall! And it's like.... what, an hour away from Beijing? We're not going on any tours, everything we do is going to be on our personal time so we can enjoy it ^_^. Great article!
Oh my god Hi there. Loved reading your blog. I am busy emptying my 'bucket list' and my Canadian husband will be in New Zealand (where we used to live...now reside in Australia) duck shooting while I'm in China. So would love to know where u stayed in Beijing and whether you saw any accommodaton places at the Mutiyama area of the wall where I could stay a night? looking on the cheap side, backpackers or hostel Not sure if I'll be able to pluck up enough courage to take the chair lift!!!
Cheers to you both
Annette
Slide of Doom I loved the slide! I also bought the "life insurance" for 1 Yuan! ha ha

Great pictures Hi Rachel
great job to get a few photos taken inside the temples. I have been to Abu Simbel in November last year and it was as you describe it - just awesome.
Enjoy the Nile cruise.

I really liked the show at Splendid China. We were really rushed through the rest of the displays so I possibly would have enjoyed the miniatures more if we weren't stuffed onto a speeding shuttle and taken on a whirlwind around the park...Good call on skipping the Lo Wu Shopping Mall, it was one of the scariest and most uncomfortable places I have been in all my travels. I'm surprised that these groups take tourists there and let them wander around!
OH my GOSH! Hello! This site just poped up when i was searching Iizaka town, fukushima! .
Im from IIzaka-town!!!! Oh my gosh..its really awsome to see somebody visited my town! Its really a small town you know? My house is pretty close where you visited. that brige..i painted from other side when i was elementary school!!

Seoul is fun I found your blog. I used to live in Seoul. it is a very nice city, but it does take some getting used too. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your trip.
Hello Hi Rachel,
I haven't had a chance to go through all of your journals until today. Wow, you have been busy. It sounds like you are really immersing yourself in what is going on around you. The photos really help to get a sense of what you are experiencing and seeing. Congratulations on your job. It's not easy to be thrown into a classroom and left to fend for yourself with a group of students looking expectantly at you. Are you basically giving them an opportunity to practise conversation skills? What will you be doing with the kids? I met a teacher here at the college last week who went to Japan on a whim and ended up staying there for 10 years. How is your Japanese? Do people understand you when you speak it? Anyway keep exploring and enjoy yourself. Bye for now.
