Left Cardiff for a longish drive to Bournville. this was my surprise for them all, big hit as soon as you walked in they started giving us chocolate, we had soooooo much the kids and I eventually gave up but Greg soldiered on, eating all of our left overs! Lots of warm chocolate, adding in our own choices. Another play ground to wear them out. Then off to Stratford upon Avon, checked in and headed in to town,Shakespeare's house and a great dinner at the red lion.... read more

Left England for southern wales. Arrived in Cardiff mid morning, it was St Davids day, almost like Australia Day, lots of people dressed in national colours and wearing daffodils. The Cardiff story was a great overview of the city. Grag and Coops went touiring the millenium stadium while Kasey and I went shopping and watched the parade for St David. In the afternoon we headed out to an amazing place called the museum of welsh life - full of reconstructed buildings from welsh history. Also another playground!... read more

Left Warminster early and headed in to Bath to find our accomm. Spent a few minutesdriving round and round, eventually we got there. We grabbed our stuff and headed into the centre of Bath. Impressive and beautiful weather. We toured the ancient roman baths, since I was here last it is completely different. We each had a personal headset so we all went at our own pace which meant no fighting!!! We spent almost 3 hours in there before grabbing a quick lunch and joining a walking tour of Bath led by a local - Roger was our guide. this went for almost 2 hours and centred maily on the Georgian Bath - Jane Austens Bath. Circus and royal walk etc were amazing, Bath stone is very distinctive. We also went in to the assembly rooms ... read more

First stop was the beautiful Bourton on the water - OK, second stop really Rick steve's recommended Stow on the Wold - not that great. But had lunch and walked around Bourton - just sooooo pretty. OK, everyone has heard of Stonehenge, but Avebury? With older stones you can walk around and touch???? well, really worth the trip, firstly because the kids treated it like a huge park and ran and ran! Secondly because it was amazinf to see such antiquity in the middle of a town. We spent a long time walking the stone lay out - 16 times bigger than Stonehenge and much older. then on to Stonehenge for a brief stop, yes much much bigger and the kids liked it more but just doesn't have the same feel, you can't get anywhere near ... read more

Off to Warwick Castle today, best preserved castle (but a little too much like a theme park now) in England. Very expensive but we spent about 4 hours there, walking again nonstop and the bonus of 550 steps! Did the dungeon tour as an add on, I was caught out a couple of times and screamed nice and loudly!!!!! Cooper was hauled in to court and in to the dock, found guilty for being Australian!!!!! Kasey ran every where, her favourite part was learning about how they used "bum waste" their term not mine, to defend the castle, throwing it at anyone trying to get in. Cooper liked the dungeons. greg like walking the wallls, I just loved the history. You may notice our clothes are starting to look the same day after day - yes I ... read more

early start and a 3 hr drive to our first 10 pound travelodge room!!!!!! Very clean, basic, but at least the kids got separate beds to sleep in. highly recommend Travelodge, even at 5 times the price it's a bargain. After checkin we drove in to town, about 5 mins away. Parked pretty farout, as you have to here in any tourist area. Walked in via lovely parks, headed to the Fitzwiliam museum of antiquities. Crammed with ancient artifacts from Rome, Greece etc, plus great french and English art. Cooper and Kasey had very different experiences, learnt a lot about the kids watching them today. We saw a great busker playing from inside a garbage - see photos. from there we headed to King college chapel for evensong, very very high Anglican and amazing to hear ... read more

birthday trip to York was amazing and like most days exhausting to the point we are all in bed asleep by 8pm. The highlight birthday gift had to be the replica of princess Diana's engagement ring. Am wearing it everywhere, people look at me a bit strangely but I am loving it. Trip to York took about 40 mins, beautiful sunny day and warm at 10 degrees. We walked the city and then headed to the Minster, which tok 250 yrs to build, it is just spectacular. Walk to the top took about 10 minutes straight up, Kasey led the way of course. Greg and I agreed that we wouldn't have wanted to leave this sort of travel much longer, cardio fitness is improving daily. After the minster we went boot shopping, we needed more than ... read more

Up early, breakfast then school work/diaries/technology catch up. Did my research and found the local equivalent of Warrawong westfield - but so much better and bigger. So off we set! Loved the tom tom (yes, I know even more technology.) Besides getting a mobile I wanted to check out the UK equivalent of walmart (kmart but better). Instead I found this amazing shop that was like best and less on steroids. I went nuts - well not as crazy as i would normally - who can resist 3.50 pound for two kids tshirts!!!!! I pretend they're souveners. I put a lot back, really wished Terri and Lara were here to see this! The dual shopping queens wouldn't believe it! Think i will be sending back a lot more than I thought! Luckily the shoes I loved ... read more

came close to not entering the uk. Apparently you can't just do what you want as a family here, I forgot to bring the letter from NSW Dept of education allowing the kids to be absent. So the very strict woman at the border challenged us, asking for lots of detail , told us all about Maddie McCann (coudn't see much relevance). If we were from the EU we would have walked right through. Anyway, she finally decided to let us in. I have emailed the principal at school for another copy of the letter - though I doubt it will stop the questioning at each border. Everyone we've met - and there's been lots of chatting to complete strangers - has been amazed we can have the kids out of school at all if it's ... read more
