OMG he´s back again...riding an unusual high, inexplicable and maybe just getting over the travails of the past few days...and knowing where I am, I think!..its Arrial DÁjuba..maybe..does it matter?... On email - I´d sent one off to someone and hoping they hadn´t just hit the ´delete´button automatically, assuming it was another useless rant or offer of something unnecessary, unwanted or unobtainable...I love opening my email after a spell and seeing lots of entries, then despair seeing all the usual offers to either make my dick bigger or my mortgage smaller...is it the same operation?..the same doctors?...do chicas get the same junkmails?..is the internet gender sensitive?..if so what messages to gays get?...Its one of several disturbing features of email...another is the amazingly intimate degree of personal closeness one gets so quickly with maybe complete strangers...and then, ... read more

Well, another team decision to stay, or really a lack of any real decision to move on, and we stay another day in another spectacularly boringly, over-inhabited by beautiful people and all the beautiful trappings, and all the touristy gift boutiques and galleries(?)...who comes to a beach resort and needs to buy art?....and its low season so at least one can negotiate better deals and the service is keenly offered...restaurants are fantastic but you wonder, when they are empty, just how fresh are the crabs?...I saw an old woman with a bag of crabs yesterday and wanted to follow her to the restaurant where she was delivering them to...later, at a restaurant, I accosted the waitress and using basic sign language mimed crabs, fingers scuttling sideways, thumb and forefinger making nipping movements...she at got it and ... read more

OK devotees, back to the keyboard after a few days off...in this episode we continue down the coast of NE Brasil, getting a taste of several states, I get drugged, deserted, mugged but rescued in Salvador, we continue to pass thru too many inumerable cute towns and gorgeous beaches to count...(but if you want the travelogue, check the discovery channel...or national geographic)...so, whats really happening? The notes in my little note book are getting more cramped as I´m down to the last couple of pages...not that theyre the last few pages, just the last few usable pages as every notebook starts at both ends for Really important stuff...´so the back and front few pages have the names and eddresses of people, phone numbers, currency exchange rates, time comparisons etc etc..all a bit silly really as its ... read more

Calling in from a little beach place just north of Fortaleza...Monday morning and still a few people left after their weekend away...I´m still loving Brasil, wierd language (Portuguese) that, overheard, could be German, French, Russian or a lot of others...fortunately my limited español seems to work....the people are curious, friendly and cheerful....to us anyway!...amongst each other there´s a clear pecking order and an enormous inequality in wealth...however, notwithstanding the fact that I´ve not met any of the really wealthy (and probably won´t!) who may well have a sense of duty etc...but lets not go there just yet...there is a level of arrogance and rudeness by the ciustomer to the wait staff, for example , in restaurants that belies the insecurity of the disempowered...any little edge... Still and all, what a sombre note to set off on!...lets ... read more

Similar, but less intense than my disappointment at finding no small dogs in Chihuahua is the lack of those big nuts in Brasil...tempered by the fact that I like small dogs and those nuts are only fillers in the mixed nut collections!...however, too early to digress! And this is the 2nd attempt as the fcuking computer just bombed and dropped a few pages of gems!...ahh cést la bloody vie! So, reflections of Manaus I´ll publish later, suffice to say a great intro to brasil..so the boat ride..the fabulous Amazon Star...3 levels of fun and excitement...after 12 hours wondering if I´ll survive the endless re-run of re-runs of the jungle banked scenery and apart from getting bogged on a sandbar for most of the first night..not much happening! But then you get into the way of life ... read more

A PS at the start...thats novel...but I cant take responsibility for the pix...dont know what happened but they look shite to me...but its really hot, sweaty and Im meeting my new little friend in 2 mins...so.....read on... But its not really the Amazon...but it is amazing...its the Rio Negro and the confluence with the Amazon is 20 something kms downstream... But, back to the start...early start again and off across the deserted sabana... The road is perfect...lovely new bitumen, long straights and long curves, no one else around...have a bit of a fang to enjoy the newly serviced machinery, cool of the morning air, off to the side the blue outlines of higher tepuis, unbelievable square and straight...the ruins of some giant city..definitely a movie set.....green grassy surface rolls off to each side, occasionaly a fall-off ... read more

A bit of a backdated issue this time as I´m really in Manaus...yes, on the real Amazon...(in fact its not on the Amazon but thats another story!)but more of that later! Where to begin?...and this will be abbreviated as its exy here and uncomfortable...but for you, hey, gotta do it. Got the bikes 20,000 km service in Caracas...Andrès, our man in BMW organised everything fantastically, new tyres courtesy of Herr Florian at Continental, Germany...the BMW guys did the fuel filters as well so hopefully that sorted my probs.....some cockup communications notwithstanding we were led out of Caracas by the beautiful and so charming Zulya, ex-diplomat wife, girlfriend of the BMW mechanic who was formerly a cop!..it can´t get any better than this...down the autopista, stop for gas, abso torrential downpour, makes Darwin tropical storms look like ... read more

Back to having a personality, a meaning for life, an identity...(and a bit scary) getting back in the saddle after such a long break but feeling whole again!. And please indulge the odd typo as this keyboard has most of the letters scratched off the keys!! so its a bit off guesswork on the hunt and peck.... And the tyres are here, somewhere, stuck in customs, stuck in the warehouse...who knows but they're stuck...so we headed off to the beach at Puerto Colombia...first the traffic of Caracas to contend with, always congested but we manage to slip the lanes even with our fat arsed bikes...then a couple of hours on the autopista to the turn off...ahhh, this is more like it, a one-and-a-half lane concrete road, poured in 3 meter slabs and striated, luckily, as its ... read more

Ahh, faithful blogees, at last I can start reporting on things bike again!!......but no photos to record the more intense moments...and it was intense!...after a few false starts and an aborted visit to the warehouse in the port town....about an hours drive from Caracas...on Tuesday...we got off to a bad start yesterday (Wednesday for us)....our driver arrived at 8am to take us back down to the port place....Guaia(?) .....after about 20 kms the freight guy texts us to say he's in traffic, on his way to Caracas...whaaa?..so we have to return to town.....so we meet with our freight guy, his lawyer chica and a import/customs/hot shot/freight guy and they thrash around for an hour or 2...with brief translations in English for us...its like those movies where there's a huge long stretch of dialogue and the sub-title ... read more

Well, everything a little out of synch, again...the 1st photo is here in cracas then we're back on Isla Margarita...oh well.......so, to begin again...OK, I may have been a little harsh again, last time....I've now seen caracas in a new and better light...yes, fahn dining, bars, clubs, gorgeous women...altho' that's also curious..the thing is that ALL girls are raised to be beauty queens...and they believe it!..so they all have a disconcerting way of putting it all out there.....and altho' beauty is only skin deep and yadda yadda, some of them really shouldn't be putting quite soo much out there!...not that I should be commenting, I'm putting a bit out there too!...and there was the episode with the budgie smugglers!...anyway....and they treat the men so mean!...but then, once they're trapped into marriage and kids and gravity and ... read more
