Friday 29th June 2012 Well Mandy and Ray got off ok Terry picked them up and drove them to the airport, so it was a slow start for those left behind. We did not have much planned for the day, all we had to do was pick up Aunty Dianne and drive her to the airport as she was on a later flight than the others, which we were able to do without incident. After lunch we did some shopping, I had to pick up some supplies, of the food and beer variety, as well as head to Rays Outdoors and Autobarn to get some things for the car and van. Saturday 30th June 2012 The weather was finally starting to fine up, and the kids managed to convince me that a swim was in order, ... read more

Friday 22nd June 2012. Quiet start today, no need to rush we did not have to be out by 10am like normal caravan parks and was only a mere 80 odd km drive to our next stop in Queensland. We knocked the required km's quick smart and arrived in sunny (hopefully) Queensland, we were staying in a park in Palm Beach which is not far from Coolangatta airport. We checked in and were given our site number and we drove to it to discover that the site number we were given was occupied by someone else, as we were trying to work out what was going on an old geeza wandered over and told us that even though they give you a site number everyone else just finds a site and parks there. We found a ... read more

Sunday 17th June 2012. Today we were off to Yamba which is a sea side town (about 150 km north of Coffs Harbor), the drive was easy but we were starting to notice the change in scenery and vegetation, especially so when we saw our first sugar cane plantation, we missed a turn off and made a wrong turn, I think Kevin (our GPS) had a big night the night before, well at least that’s my excuse and I’m sticking with it. It is a bit of a pain to try and turn around when your about 12 metres long, when we missed the turnoff I had drive down a side road and do three-point turn however it ended up being about a twenty point turn, with Mandy standing in the middle of the road guiding ... read more

Friday 9th 2012. After a quick pack and hitch up we were on our way, we were heading to Tea Gardens where we were meeting up with some friends of Mel Neals who had moved there, where they run a school camp. We arrived and Simone came and met us she said that since there was no kids at the camp at the moment we could stay in there, we went to the office and her husband Brad took us into the camp and showed us around as Simone had to go pick the kids up from school, we unhitched the van and got sorted out and arranged to go to Simone and Brads for dinner. So after a quick photo opportunity with the local kangaroos, a shower and a quick detour to pick up some ... read more

3rd June We had an easy run into Sydney, it helped it being a Sunday and going around the city instead of through it as I know what Sydney traffic is like. It is still raining while we set up camp in the caravan park, we get through it and are set up in a flash. The park we are staying at is the one that they use for some of the outdoor caravan park scenes in Home And Away. My mission for the afternoon was to do the washing as I hadn’t done any for a while. We put Chloe down for a sleep, the girls did some more school work. I’m loving the commercial washing machines having done 3 loads in 20 minutes then into the dryer cos of the rain, and all done., ... read more

29th May 2012 Well we survived the night unscathed, we quickly hitched up and headed up the road towards Batemans Bay, and then turned off towards Canberra, the drive was very hilly and windy, great if you were on a motorbike or in a sports car but not when your towing a 3 tonne caravan. The forest was pretty and some great views got a few photos and did some video but there were bloody trees in the way, but I guess that’s what u get when you’re in a forest! Arrived in Canberra with no dramas the average IQ of Canberra rose immediately. We set up camp in the showgrounds where there were amenities electricity and water. Needless to say Mandy was a happy camper. We planned the weeks activities, pumped up the heater and ... read more

24 May 2012 Day one in Merimbula as mentioned in the previous blog was a quiet day in the park, I unloaded the bikes off of the back of the van for the two older kids Tayla asked me to put the training wheels on her bike so she could ride, I had them packed away somewhere I just needed to find them however she got tired of waiting and just took off, suppose that’s one way to get her to ride on two wheels. In the arvo the girls wanted to go for a swim in the pool, now we were not even 100 kms over the Vic border so it was not quite the Queensland tropics, I think it was about 15 deg outside the pool and lucky to be that in the “heated ... read more

After spending two nights at Lindenow and getting some more stuff organised we were off to Merimbula, we got away a bit later than we would have liked I thought I better get that new battery before we ended up stuck in the middle of nowhere needing a jump start, and Mandy got some much needed supplies of the food and alcohol variety. We left Lindenow/Bairnsdale at around 11.30am with 300 odd kms to do before dark, was not to keen driving unfamiliar roads at night with the van attached. Bairnsdale to Orbost was a pretty easy run, but after going through Orbost the road got a bit windier and the hills steeper, but they were no match for the mighty Jeep, it powered up and down the hills pulling the nearly 3 tonnes with ease ... read more

Day 1. 21 May 2012 After years of planning the day had finally arrived, we were ready and set for our big adventure. The car and the van were packed, and the house cleared of furniture, there was no turning back. It was a tearful good bye for mother and daughter, Mandy and her mum Cheryl gave each other final hugs and kisses, we all piled into the car and........nothing, the battery was flat, great start to the holiday. I knew the battery was getting a bit old and probably needed replacing, it was on my "to do list" but never got quite there, so a jump start of Cheryl’s car and good-byes take 2 and we were off. The first destination was my mum’s in Lindenow, just near Bairnsdale, about 250 kms east of Melbourne, ... read more
