While I was relaxing at the beach in Hua Hin, Thailand... I read a book about Banda Island. It was the only place that nutmeg could be found. The British claimed the island, but every island within a thousand miles was claimed by the Dutch who made life very difficult for the Brits. In a peace treaty the Dutch got Banda Island in exchange for giving up Manhattan. Sorry about the staring.
Glad you enjoyed Chiang Mai... I lived there from 1974-75 and thought it was paradise. Like you, I also didn't like India for all the reasons you listed in your previous blog. You mention taking pictures and posting them...now is the time!
Welcome back to blogging... this time I'm Following your travels. I look forward to reading about your past travels...for Entry Date use the date of the trip and all will be in chronological order.
Friends No one I can think of has so many friends scattered around the world that
you have...they must be thrilled to have you drop by, as you are to see
them....though you always make new friends in every land...it never stops!
Dolores, your Mom and Dad's friend, Santa Rosa CA
Glad to hear you are still around. I had began to be concerned. Soon i was going to write to your mom for your news. Undoubtedly you are the most adventurous person I know.
It's a long way from catering with Martha Rowland
Thank you, Diane No need to be concerned. I am still traveling, still keeping busy and still enjoying life on the road, just not sending out these blogs as quickly as I had hoped. The days of Martha seem a lifetime ago, don't they? I hope you are still enjoying your new life in the NE. My folks always enjoy hearing from you.
Journey to Petra Great tales of Jordan. What a difference to walk along Colgan Creek. Our family visited Petra in 1965 on our way from Baghdad to Beirut. My grandfather had a wooden leg so they let my mom drive him in in our VW bus. Dad and us 4 boys rode donkeys. I don’t remember any tourists around. A few “guides” with rifles. So good to hear that people are people in Jordan. If only the rest of the U.S. could realize this.
Siq Pic The photo of you in the Siq picture is awesome. What a beautiful place nature creates. Oh, by the way, you're not missing a thing in the U.S.A. Keep traveling onward. Oh, how I would just love to travel in that area and see all the ancient ruins. It looks spectacular. Backbreaking jobs then. Should try doing hookahs.....

Thanks, Margaret! Thanks for the kind words, Margaret. Yes, Petra was incredibly beautiful and am glad I went. I did try a hookah and hated it ( :-) ) -- tried one in Turkey, not Jordan.
Starting Up Again -- Really. I am thrilled, Suzi, that you are "doing" it again. You will have a huge fan base and gaining lots more followers as you tell of adventures and crazy things that have happened to you. Looking forward to each chapter!

Thanks! The last time I said "I promise" was indeed the last time...now I am ready to start again. It will be a lot of work to catch up but at least I have journal notes from which to go back through and concoct a story.
Inspiration Thanks for the blog, Suzi! Look forward to catching up on your travels since Thailand and seeing the world through your eyes. Lucky lady! Stay safe and healthy on your journey. Your limited posts are welcomed as food for thought...big hug!
Left the USA on October 10, 2006 and at the time of writing (May 24, 2008) I have no definite plans of going back for a while. Too much of the world to see, too many new friends to make, too many new cultures and languages to understand. Work can wait. My life can not.
I'm a bare-bones budget traveler, getting around by hitch-hiking, taking local chicken buses and sleeping in cheap hostels or occasionally on the floor of kind locals. I have been blessed to experience what I have thus far on my journey.
Traveling and volunteering my way around the world has become a lifestyle choice for m... full info
