Thank you for visiting this great country of ours
I have been out of Nicaragua since 1983 and everytime I see people
enjoying what Nicaragua has to offer, brings tears to my eyes
photos Tordes looks stunning in her Abaya. I think it must be kinda nice to be free from making decisions about what to wear every day and just think how light you can pack! Must cut down on the laundry bill as well. Great photos as usual.
too bad, so sad. I'm sad that I won't be reading any more of these amazing blogs, yet selfishly, happy you are heading home 'cause you've all been missed.
I haven't posted a comment before, but wanted it to go on record that I LOVE reading the detailed descriptions of everything you experience & see. I feel as though I'm living it with you. It's such a joy to read. And the photos... well that just completes it.
Wonderful job, and I'm so excited for you all that you're getting to experience this as a family.
See you soon.

Reality Check Yep, escapism is great isn't it? It is going to be so HARD for you all to get back into the routine of normal life. Following your travels through your blogs has been great. But what I have enjoyed the most is seeing how adaptable the chiildren are and how much fun they have been having. They will be encouraging you to plan another adventure - bring it on!
we miss you guys!!! Hello guys...We are really happy to see you enjoying Nicaragua and al CA...we hope to see you soon in Guatemala!!...soon!!!...we miss you guys!!!!...send a kiss to Real and Luca...tell them next time they will come back we will show them beautiful places in Guate!!...hope Luca is still enjoying his lizard!!...kisses to everybody!!!....
Hot and sticky in Vancouver YES - we were very relieved to get your latest blog. I kept saying to myself "self, be patient - all is well - they will write when the can."
Toddie, I really hope you are keeping a diary so that, one day, you can write about the travels of the Antes-Shaefer-Charlton family.
Hurray for the kids. It sounds like they are being real little troupers - but then their parents are setting them a great example - get our there and see life - that is what it is all about!
Mind boggling Wow! wow! wow! I keep using this word a lot - don't know what else it say as it all sounds amazing and the kids seem to be coping really well with the travel plans of their crazeee parents! We are having a little mini heatwave of our own at the moment. Life is a little too quiet back here in beautiful B.C. with so many of you away at once.
What memories. Wow, the zip line rides sounded like a real adventure and quite amazing - can't wait to see the video. We are really proud of our adventurous - and brave - grandchildren.
What did he tell me not to read?? Errr - zip line - solo or tandem? This is not an episode from the Amazing Race you know - remember you are travelling around with my two grandchildren - hope you took a movie.
Don't get cheeky sonny - just remember who gave you the 'travelbug' genes in the beginning!
Antigua We are a little green with envy, but in a good way.Glad to hear you are enjoying Antigua. We certainly did and were always sorry we hadn't spent longer in Guatamala - never mind - we can relive our memories through your eyes. We stayed at Casa Florencia 7a Avenida Norte #100, is that anywhere near Jerome's. Hope when you went to Lake Atitlan you crossed over to Santiago Atitlan and said hi to our artist friend 'Nicolas! The colours of Antigua were the inspiration for our bedroom decor - now don't roll your eyes Toddie! Say hi to the kids and Jerome.
Corrie in the Jungle? Haha, I cant beleive you actually met Sarah Platt and Jason Grimshaw searching for Orangutans. Maybe there trying to spice up the street. Just wanted to say, I love seeing families travelling like this. Gives me hope that I dont have to give up travelling when I settle down.
Coming to an end Hard to believe your great trip is coming to an end. I am sure you are just getting into the swing of things and ready to keep going. Knowing you two, you are probably already planning your next adventure!
See you soon.
yikes Spiderville? Sounds like Amittyville to me....a true horror. You sure must have one loving wife to let you take her there. I don't blame Riel, she had the right idea...stay away!
p.s. I want to hear Luca play his flute when he's home.

Cambodia Wow, it all sounds amazing. Having been to Asia several times can relate to some of your experiences - but not all - as never made it to Cambodia. The Killing Fields must have been hard to handle. An eye openng experience for the kids, that is for sure,
I admire you and Tordes so much for travelling this way with the children. So many people say "we can't travel because of the kids." You are great examples of what can be done if you REALLY want to. I also think the kids are little troopers. They seem to be lapping it up from their smiles in the photos - considering it must be hot, tiring and, at times, a little overwhelming for them.

travel challenges I thought of you all often while we were off on our trip to Peter Hope Lake, 4 hours from Vancouver by car. Any challenges we had were minor compared to the things you guys are facing. Well done, since you're getting to see such wonderful things, and the kids will never learn more than when they see the world through different cultures. Miss you, see you soon ! Al.
Some people say that they like to travel to escape from the 'real world'........ we like to travel to find it! During this journey I will be leading a tour group of 20 Canadians through Saudi Arabia for 14 days!!! Starting in Riyadh and ending in Jeddah. Covering everywhere in between (Abha / Dammam / Sakaka / Jouf / Ha'il / Madain Saleh / Najran). Then a quick pit stop in Dubai and Kuwait on the way home!... full info
