Talia Wells

off on an adventure...

well, my little vacation is rapidly coming to a close. a quick summary of my weeks here... overall life has been pretty relaxed. snowboarding, sleeping, eating...alot of eating, internet cafe-ing. just laying low. i had kind of come to terms that i wouldn't be seeing alot of the country on this trip, that i was here to visit levi and snowboard. and thats basically been it. i have picked up more spanish than i could have hoped, its funny how much i can understand because of the languages similarity to french, i can read most of the signs, understand the majority of the menus and almost follow a spanish conversation. my ability to converse is still minimal and i really struggle when spoken to. this town isn't really all that experienced when it comes to foreign ... read more

my spelling is terrible. did anyone notice that i was talking about righting things...today i righted in my journal. holy shit, good thing i am taking english at university in 2 weeks. that way i can learn how to read and right. i might even learn how to spell write the right way. but i'm not holding my breath, reading and righting have never been my forte. so, my arrival in argentina was quite picturesque. no one accused me of being the oklahoma bomber. as i hauled my over rested body through the arrival gates i was met by a little man holding a sign talia wells . how cool is that? i amused myself as he attempted to get my snowboard bag in a little 4 door car, and try as i might he wasn't ... read more

Oh the coincidence... First day I get to my e-mail, and my inbox contains a reminder from travelblog.org. "your account has been innactive for blah blah blah..etc." and so it was my friendly reminder that when its raining on your snowboard trip, you should sit on the internet for an ungodly amount of time and right a bunch of shit. You could say I am here, to entertain those back home, behind a desk, holding a tray, getting drunk due to lack of a better idea...luckily for all involved i'm only gone for three weeks, one of which has already passed me by. So don't worry these updates will be short lived and relatively pain free. I have however..i think figured out the whole picture situation (its easier when your not on a virus infested computer ... read more

..if that ferry boat hadn't been a month ago you may have feared me dead. but its ok...we did arrive in Padangbai...an equivalently squalid port town. and luckily we had a full ride ticket that got us onto a van back to kuta. a vastly different kuta from the one we had just spent the past 10 days in. we followed a crumpled business card from a bunch of rowdy kiwi's we met back in Lombok all the way to the Bali Dwipa Hotel on Poppies II. which i am now sure is home to some of Kuta's most highly paid and saught after prostitutes...both men and women... the room was to the usual standard, it did however have its own unique feature, the instant bath aka. the drain that doesn't drain. nothing like showering in ... read more

...so i have managed to seduce a good looking boy and have stolen his computer. it may sound ridiculous and far fetched but i assure you its true. we all know that capitalization and punctuation are for well educated bloggers...and as an underpaid, overworked snowboard instructor we know that educated is something i am not. as we were... back at the ferry "terminal" in Lembar, Lombok...Tristan and I were starting to feel quite at home in our new found Indonesian province of choice. even though the taste of banana pancake lingered from an early breakfast, we found ourselves starving waiting the 2 hours for the twelve o'clock ferry back to Padangbai. its funny, in Lombok i don't remember eating with utensils. the locals just eat with their hands, and of course their is a finger dish ... read more

Yup! I am total shit at this whole blog thing. I think it may be best if i am just upfront with everyone...including myself. Low expectations will result in great excitement should a new blog appear bi-yearly. So before I tell you tales of pow days, little Australia and the few pieces i remember from Christmas eve, i should probably give everyone some kind of closure as far as Indonesia goes. Due to the fact that my lack of motivation has now left me with over a month of summary to do in one blog i will shorten my adventures in order to give you a brief but accurate depiction of what has gone on thus far. I take you back to my arrival on Gili Air, the island...with the palm trees, beaches and my local ... read more

Wow, i apologize for the last blog i wrote. I'm feeling depressed and slightly suicidal myself after reading that tragic short story. lucky for us all a 2 week break from my blog has inspired all sorts of creativity. The thing is that back here in ol' Singapore, the 15 minute terminals actually become 15 minute terminals during the day. It would appear that the lack of activity one month ago was due to the fact that it was 3 in the morning. Weird! Anyways, lets sum up the past 2 weeks shall we. So I left Gili T on a Tuesday of some unknown date. After 2 minutes of being on the island hopping boat it became apparent that I had reached celebrity status over on Gili Air before setting foot. Tris and Scotty had ... read more

So, today was my last day here on Trawangan. I've had a great time and hope that one day I'll make it back. I'm a little quieter than usual tonight. Tired, hungry and ready to go meet up with Scotty and Tristen. Crys and Keira do their own thing and I do mine, so some contact from like-minded people will be good for me. My dives were all fantastic, and I'm now an Advanced Open Water Diver. Its great, I can dive anywhere in the world! In the course their are about 15 different topics and you pick and dive 5 of them. We started with Deep Diving and went on to do Navigation, Night Diving, Underwater Naturalist and Digital Photography. I managed to get some great shots on the last day with Bruno's camera and ... read more

Not long after my blog yesteray I was taken down by a mystery illness that involved alot of vomiting and very little eating. luckily i was well by morning, just in time to make it to my dive refresher course. The morning involved a quick session in the pool and then a break for lunch before going out for our first ive back in the ocean. We went to a dive site just on the other side of Trawangan, called Halik Reef and Wall. We were down for about an hour and saw all sorts of sea life including turtles, reef sharks, and even an angry mother trigger fish who attacked us. I start my Advanced Open Water Course tomorrow. A deep water dive at 9am, a navigational dive at 1pm and then a night dive ... read more

I won't lie...I'm actually in paradise. When you think of a beach paradise you picture an island with white sand beaches, hammocks, thatched platforms with pillows overlooking the crystal blue water and parties until the early hours of the morning. This place exists. I know this, because I'm there! Off to coast of Lombok lies a chain of islands known as the Gili Islands. Each with its own distinct character and personality. Gili Meno, a ghost town with so few people you can go for days without seeing anyone. Gili Air, a fun little island with a carefree attitude. And Gili Trawangan, the upbeat of the three full of travelers from all over the world, here to dive, to surf, to eat, to drink and most of all to have fun all day everyday until the ... read more
