Enjoyed your blog, interesting and true. When I moved to the Cooper area about 43 years ago it was a nice little town, a few small stores(all gone now), the square has changed much since then, buildings are still there, they seem to be trying to repair and dress it up a bit now. It's still a nice little farming town and we like it. Thanks for your blog
Tours We are cruising on the Star Princess and will port at Port Stanley on March 9th. Can you suggest a local guide that can take us around? If so please ask them to send an e-mail. We are departing California next Saturday to Chile and will begin our cruise from there.
Any help would be appreciated. They may contact at: jimfermo@gmail.com
Thank You,
Jim
My wife, Debbie, and I visited the Falklands on our way to Antarctica. We stopped at one island which was populated by one elderly couple, a Land Rover, magellanic penguins and albatrosses. I took a swift look at the wildlife and returned to the farm house to chat with the homesteaders to find out what made them tick. They are, after all even more isolated than the inhabitants of the capital, Stanley. What an interesting experience!
Breathless I'll never forget my first visit to Smithland. My husband and I were visiting the Kentucky Lake area for a weekend trip when I saw the sign for Smithland near the motel where we were staying. My grandfather had pastored the Methodist Church there many years before, and since we were only 12 miles away, I suggested that we drive over. After winding around curves and up and down hills for what seemed like a lot more than 12 miles, we crested the hill and started down Main Street when suddenly before me I saw one of the most beautiful vistas I have ever seen in my life. It quite literally took my breath away and I gasped in complete awe. The vision of the two rivers meeting and the uninterrupted view across to the other side was awe-inspiring. We have traveled back to Smithland on several more occasions and I don't think I would ever grow tired of that first beautiful view.
