Hello everyone! If you're here you should know me (or I should make this private?). However, for those of you slacking in your friendly duties, my name is Tyler Luckett. I'm a senior French major at Truman state university with minors in linguistics and international studies. Why mention that? That'd probably be because I am fortunate enough to be studying my passion and I therefore make it rule every second of my life. Don't believe me? Well besides all of the activity at Truman with the French department, I'm currently residing in Dieppe, France as an unofficial au-pair for three kids that are too adorable for their own good. In fact, that's what this blog is about! My experiences with the kids, with the language, with the people, and, ultimately, with the culture. Bon appetit!

The Jura

Well, it’s just about the end of the trip. Leaving for the states on Tuesday (currently Saturday.) Life has been kind of a whirlwind as of late constantly hopping from one place to another and living out of a bag. Let’s see… The Jura was where I left off last time. For those who don’t know, the Jura is a middle-sized mountain range a bit north of the western Alps. We went because it was part of the Laurent family tradition for the summer, and we’re so glad that we did. All in all, we really didn’t do much. Let the Vacations Begin! It’s been awhile since I’ve written something, so I thought I’d go ahead and word-vomit forth a series of words, hoping they land in a way than can be interpreted as intelligent thought. Last time I wrote something we were on the ferry returning from England (wow that seems like such a long time ago!) The two weeks after that went by relatively smoothly. I cut my haircut for the first time in another country/language and that was a bit interesting. Starting with a quick heads up before getting into everything. While I love that people are reading what I have to say, I’m actually more so writing everything as a way to retain the wonderful memories I’m living. Hey everyone! I’m currently on a TGV heading back to Dieppe with nothing to do, so I thought I’d write a quick sum up of the week as a way to pass the time! First off, I mentioned some disciplinary issues in my last post with Zoé (6). Well, the combined efforts of all (though mostly her) seem to have paid off. She was an angel for the rest of the week and I now owe her ice cream. Which is great, seeing as how I just got done spending a ton of money in Paris. Rachel and the kids

Hey everyone! Been a couple weeks since I last posted something so I thought I’d drop a quick word. Life has been pretty easy going here. We’ve kind of been finding out where we stand in the family and getting to know everyone better. At first we had a harder time talking to Laure, the mom, because she’s not quite as charismatic as Guillaume is, but seeing as how we only see Guillaume on the weekends and we’re always with Laure, that has quickly changed. So much so that we actually meet her for her lunch break once a week and grab a bite to eat! This week has been a barrage of different emotions! It started out with both of us adjusting not only to the time difference, but also to speaking French all the time. If you haven’t ever been in a similar scenario, just think of it this way. You’d be tired if you walked/jogged around all day, right? Your body would be exhausted! Well, we made it. That’s a bit of an accomplishment in itself I’d say. The kids are off at cool, the grownups are off to work, and, somehow, I’m supposed to be included in that ‘work’ status as well. That is to say that the work has finally begun. I guess there’s some first post explanation that needs to happen … First, Rachel (my beautiful girlfriend) and I are unofficially in Dieppe, France as au-pairs. What is an au-pair? Some people consider it a live-in nanny from another country, others a live-in language tutor. But really what it is is a live-in big brother or sister.
