I need to find some new words to use...anyway...yet again...beautiful!! I now realize my washing machine is not so bad. Your recount of the van with the wooden bench made me laugh, i can just picture it!! But you got there early, amazing...oh yeah, and alive too!! X K

What a fascinating glimpse into such a different world....I had to read it twice. I love the detail you've put in here, and all the things you've learnt about a place and people we hear so little about. I do like the Merry Cemetery....very amusing, i like the story of the inscription which took a while to be put there due to the family not being so happy about it...i'm sure that happens a lot when its a truthful inscription!! Beautiful Prague...
We loved Prague!! We were finally able to afford to eat well here, compared to the rest of Europe it was heaps cheaper. Very picturesque...took so many photos of the Castle, the Bridge ,the Astronomical Clock...and the Stare Mestro, the Old Town. How wonderful for you to be able to catch up with a friend and get a tour from a local's perspective and a bit of a glimpse into every day life. I wish we'd made it to the Jewish Museum, it sounds fascinating. x K

Divine...I regret we didn't make it here in our travels, we'd heard how stunning it is.....after we'd visited the Czech Republic, by then it was too late!! x K

Berlin...
We found Berlin really fascinating when we were there. The painful past of the city is all around you, I felt an almost eerie sense of it at times. It felt like an emotional place too...visiting Checkpoint Charlie was a very sobering experience. When we visited, the wall had only gone down about 10 years earlier, and it was such a feeling of disbelief about the horrible and recent history in a city we were now walking about so freely. We also visited The Brandenburg Gate, The Berliner Dome, Zoo Station...for Terry, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial, also a stark reminder of the history of the city. When we left Berlin we breathed a big sigh of relief, I particularly found it quite emotionally disturbing, and it made me so grateful for my freedom and the relatively safe world that we live in Down Under. feel the serenity...
It sounds like you had such a lovely time here, getting to enjoy some serenity, home cooked meals, surrounded by nature, and peace. A nice chance to draw a breath and enjoy some space it seems. I like the look of favorite place No2 with the old mill there. Row boat adventures sounded fun too!! x Keri

helsinki
We also enjoyed our time in Helsinki a lot... I've found some of my diary entries from our visit there. And i quote" We found some local markets at the waterfront harbor and spent some time looking at the local food and crafts...Huge mega woks with lots of kippers, herring and other fish. Hats and gloves trimmed with mink and reindeer fur and skin. Lots of leather products made from reindeer and elk. Terry bought a coin purse made from reindeer leather. The White Cathedral was a magnificent building, lots of people sitting on the steps leading up to it(It was mid summer). In the main square the Helsinki Festival was on, with bands playing, and about 15 restaurants set up. We tried reindeer crepes and sampled the local beer. it was all very expensive!! Or were we just poor!! We also visited the orthodox church, with lots of icons, mosaics and exquisite pictures in gold. We then waited till 10pm that night when the local car wash was half price after 10pm and I could ring Mum, it was 5am for her. We camped that night in the local city campsite, where it rained heavily all night!!" So there you go Sharyn, our Helsinki adventure...just quite a few years ago though, its probably changed a lot since then!! A unique place, thats for sure. Sorry for boring you with those details!! Hi from Di
I've caught up on reading all of your blogs, what an amazing time your having. The pictures are wonderful and we're going to have one hell of a slide show when you get home !! Have you a favourite place yet? Have you sampled a favourite food? I loved Mongolia and the Ger Camp, what a beautiful country side. Love the night lights!!
What a beautiful place all lit up at night, especially The Red Square, St Basils and the Gum Dept Store, and with the snow too, looks very magical. Different during the day, more grey and formidable, although still beautiful. What an interesting visit, you must be learning so much history. The blue sky and white walls are nice, with the gold roofs!!The Mausoleum must have been fascinating too.

Great to hear from you
Hi Lovice. It's good to hear from you (just reading your comment). The pandas are very cute. Unfortunately I've sent the recipe book home! I'm in Moscow now (getting very close to your part of the world) In fact I thought I saw you the other day (must be your twin!). Hope all is well. Talk to you soon. Love Sharyn

Poor Manuel
Hi Shaz, I finaly got around to checking out your blog. You're more than welcome to test out your newly acquired cooking skills on your stopover in the Netherlands. That ginger tea sounds great and those panda's are sooo cute. I've made a mental note to show them to the kids tomorrow. It looks and sounds like you're having a great time. I look forward to reading more of your travels. Lovice

Love the Pandas...
How cute is the video. I also love the sound of people chattering away in Chinese, and the little girl's voice. Can't wait for you to try some cooking school recipes out on us...minus the cows stomach please. You are very brave for trying that.!!I was laughing out loud again reading the Manuel story, and your humorous recounting of some of the other stories, including the street version of your candle's song, and an option of getting your ears cleaned at the People's Park!! The local cultural performance sounded fascinating, and funny again with the story of the spicy, ear pulling girls. I know what I'm going to go and try now. x Keri

you've made me laugh!!
Wow, great reading Sharyn, such beautiful, descriptive writing!! I've been giggling away at the stories about the light show adventure, Bill Clinton's helpful comments that were taken so literally by the locals, and at the musical candle that was still playing the next morning!! All very funny. The Karsts look so very stunning, and so much more so in real life I'd imagine, and Moon Hill is spectacular too. Can't wait for the next read. x Keri
