The hubby was off to Sydney this time so i figured i'd join him with the Little Man shorly before the Little Miss came along... a bit easier to travel with one child by yourself than two :) So we flew over on a Thursday in July hoping to do some tourist stuff and catch up with the inlaws. We stayed at Goldsborough Oaks Apartments just a few minutes walk from Darling Habour. The location was good and bad...it was a little bit dodgy to be walking around at dark by myself under a trainline and a freeway however it was really less than 5 minutes walk to Darling Harbour and for the price of a 1 bedroom apartment in the inner CBD that was excellent! The apartments themselves was quite interesting as it was an ... read more

We headed off for a long weekend in Melbourne to enjoy the big Dreamtime Game at the 'G, enjoy some great food and catch up with family. The weather for May wasnt that bad...it didnt rain and the temps were about 15 max so not that bad :) We attempted to go to two Aussie rules games but with a 2.5yo the odds of lasting 3 hours were not good. Friday nights game was the Dreamtime game between Essendon and Carlton and was a sellout - 95,000 people at the MCG! And we were in the second last row at the top!!! We lasted till half time and had nearly frozen to death so time to head back. On Saturday we drove out to Winchelsea to visit my Grandma and Aunts. Nothing much has changed and ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Western Australia » Broome April 9th 2010

Its always a controvesial topic in Perth...Broome or Bali? Perthites who dont like to leave the country generally say that Broome is the best place in the world, or those who are mad about Bali go there 2 or 3 times a year and own a villa of some kind. We hadnt been to Broome before so decided to get educated about it all :) Luckily we had some friends who lived up there but were coming down to Perth for Easter so they lent us their 4wd...a car is very much needed in Broome. It is a lazy 2.5hr flight from Perth on a tiny little plane...but all nice and cosy and a full service flight. We stayed at the Mangrove Resort hotel as a friend had recommended it and it was on the Town ... read more

Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Kuta January 7th 2010

As a surpise birthday present for my Mum i bought tickets for the family to go to Bali for her 60th birthday. My Brother and his girlfriend would come too so it was a very nice family meet up as they live in Karratha (northern Western Australia). Air Asia had a sale on and for a whole $125 return each we were off - wahoo! We booked in to the Bali Dynasty Hotel as this was our first visit to Bali with a child in tow so we opted for the family friendly hotel....plus it has rave reviews and is within walking distance of most of Kuta. The hotel was really really nice...the rooms and service were fantastic so very much 4 to 4.5 star. The only downside was the amount of people! and Kids! The ... read more

Tiger Woods is coming to Australia! Tiger Woods is coming to Australia! This was a very exciting news event and 6 months before he was due to play the Australian Master in Melbourne i had bought tickets to Day 2 of the game with the small problem of it being in Melbourne. And...we had a 23 month old that probably wouldnt stay still and be quiet as watching golf really requires. But... i had tickets!!!! So we headed over to Melbourne and stayed at the Plum Apartments on Collins Street which is a fantastic location. It is within walking distance of everything or less than a block to trams and 1 block from Flinders Train station and Federation square. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment as my fil was coming along to the golf too and ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns August 5th 2009

Our second trip to Cairns was only 12 months after our initial visit where we had completed a lot of tourist stuff so this trip was more about catching up with family and seeing the city centre. August isnt quite warm enough to go swimming but nice to not wear a jumper most of the time after winter in perth :) My Dad lives in Trinity beach which is about 15 minutes north of Cairns city and is a lovely relaxed area. We ventured to the local footy club for a very cheap meal and drinks and also down to the beach to sit in a cafe and enjoy lunch. Most of the beaches seemed to have playground equipment which is good for the midgit and Trinity Beach is no different, and the big hotel across ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Phuket April 12th 2009

This was our first trip to Thailand with our little man and we were looking forward to some relaxing, yummy food and lots of swimming. My sister in law decided to come along too as she'd only stayed at the Hyatt before so we hoped to show her what we enjoyed of Patong. We stayed at the Patong Merlin where we have stayed a few times before and they had upgraded - so the rooms were a lot more modern and nicer than ever before. Very good to show off for the sil :) The pools were slightly slippery and moudly though but with the new expansions these would be tidied up shortly. We had stayed at this hotel prekids and never noticed 2 toddler pools! Funny how your requirements change and we in fact probably ... read more

Asia » Hong Kong » Hong Kong Island » Wan Chai November 9th 2008

Australia had decided to play one of its Bledisloe Cup matches in Hong Kong so that was the perfect reason to return to the amazing city and show off my new little boy to one of my bestest friends who lived there. So off we took on our 10 hour flight.... the flight left perth at 10am and it was actually quite successful with our just starting to walk 11 month old. The flight back on the other hand...disastourous :( It has left us scared for a long time...but a quick summary is the little man was asleep at the airport and then when we got on the plane (11pm) however a baby right beside us in the baby capsule aisle screamed the whole time and started waking him up. So he got crankier and crankier ... read more

Asia » Malaysia » Penang June 15th 2008

We decided to try a new destination (for us) in Malyasia for our Little Mans first overseas trip - so off to Penang we went. Travelling with our first baby for the first time to somewhere outside of Australia we also went with what is possibly the biggest most child friendly resort on the island - Golden Sands Resort. And it was excellent! The hotel and room was very nice and clean and big with some amazing swimming pools. One of the pools had a sand embankment that slowly got deeper which is absolutly perfect for toddlers. Next door and quite huge in size was some sort of childrens themepark. It was associated with the hotel but i think you had to pay seperatly for it. Our little man at 6 months was too young but ... read more
