Words and pictures ...
... come together beautifully for another chapter in your Moroccan journey. You must keep a wonderful travel log to retain the memories of so many sights, sounds and experiences.

Essaouira... oh my heart!
Sylvia, I can't tell you how much I loved reading this. You have captured the ambiance of the place so beautifully. We absolutely loved our few days in this amazing spot and could so easily return for a much longer stay. Your words took me right back and I felt I was walking those lanes, ports, squares and ramparts once again... looking in the shops, patting kitties, feeling that strong salty breeze and wondering where we should eat! :)

Essaouira...oh my heart!
RENanDREW, your comments are far too kind but so much appreciated! I remember from your own Morocco blogs how much you enjoyed your time in Essaouira. I liked nearly all the places we visited on this trip, but I wished we could have had just another day or two in Essaouira to enjoy all that it had to offer and because it was my favorite!

I loved Essaouira too ...
... but sadly being on crutches I didn't get to explore properly. It's great to see it through your eyes :) I like the sound of the shops you went to and really enjoyed seeing your colourful photos!

I loved Essaouira too ...
Thanks, Sarah! Essaouira was my favorite place for the reasons I mentioned and I'm glad we had a good amount of free time there. I think It's such a shame you were on crutches when you visited here. If I remember correctly you still saw a lot while in country. I actually hope I can return to Morocco one day, but like you say, there's still so many new places to see. Thanks for your visit!

Essaouira
I've heard so many good things about Essaouira that I'm not surprised that you fell under its spell Sylvia. Your posts are always like a picture essay, which I have to admit, I'm a sucker for :-)

Essaouira
Thanks for your visit and the kind words, Malcolm. Essaouira has a decidedly different feel than every other place we had been to in Morocco. It's difficult to pinpoint, but I really believe it has something to do with being next to the ocean and how that makes people feel. We didn't explore the modern side of the city because the old medina is where all the historical character and charm are. I really hope you enjoyed this blog!

Essaouira
Ah, Essaouira! Definitely one of my favourite places in Morocco! I look forward to reading about it. Wonderful to read about the process of Argan oil production, and your cooking class ? Well done on producing your own Moroccan feast ?

Essaouira
Thanks for your visit, Alex. I love travel days where there's a number of varied things to do --- this day being one of them. I have to give the tour company a lot of credit for the itinerary they put together!

And missed this one too...
I just remembered that you commented on my photo of the mural of the old man, and it seems like such a long time ago! The world has changed so much in such a short time...

And missed this one too....
RENandDREW, I still have to catch up with your latest blogs, but I really want to go back and re-read all your Morocco blogs again. They were fantastic as were/are all your photos!!

Ait Benhaddou
I thought I had read all your blogs, but found that I'd missed this one! Oh to be back in Morocco right now... enjoying a mint tea and delicious almond cookie :)

Ait Benhaddou
Thanks, RENanDREW, to date, Morocco is really at the top of my list for all-time favorite trips -- I still think about it all the time !! Like you, I loved the mint tea!

Super day
Another memorable day. I love doing things like your cooking lesson - they really add an extra dimension to the experience of the holiday. Great goat shots.

Super day
Thanks, Lesley! The facilities at the Lotus Chef Cooking School were excellent and everything was so well thought out that it made learning a real pleasure. Also, I now appreciate the use of glazed crockery tajines. Kudos go to our tour company & our guide, Larbi, for coming up with the great variety of experiences we enjoyed in Morocco.

Morocco is a favorite
Morocco is still one of our favorites. The food, people and architecture are wonderful. Sounds like a great cooking class. The tea ceremonies are always great. We loved both cities and as you pointed out they have different personalities.

Morocco is a favorite
Thanks for your nice comments, Merry Jo and Dave. I admit visiting Morocco went to the top of the list when it comes to my favorite places we've traveled to; and, Essaouira was definitely one city I wish we could have stayed in for several more days!

A Change of Scenery
Marrakesh is obviously a full-on experience and Essaouira has always sounded lovely. Not only that, your journey between the two sounds full of interest as well. The cooking experience wouldn't have been any use to me apart from eating the results, but it all looks so colourful. Some great photos as always Sylvia, and I'm looking forward to your pictures and thoughts on Essaouira.

A Change of Scenery
Thank you for your nice comment, Malcolm. Moving on from Marrakesh to Essaouira was a lovely transition in both geography and atmosphere. From what we could tell, life is much more relaxed here and who couldn't love being by the ocean. Haha, I'm not sure how much most of the men in our group liked the cooking class, but my husband did since he dabbles in cooking from time to time.

A goat's eye view
Fascinating at any angle, great shot. I've seen them in other African countries and seeing is believing, but I still can't believe these hoofed creatures can negotiate to climb, hang about, climb down and look surprised at my surprise. My Denise would love the cooking classes.

A goat's eye view
Hi Dave, thank you! It is incredible to see the tree climbing goats here; I think the same thing about Rocky Mountain "goats" and the places they climb to! It just doesn't seem real. I highly recommend the Lotus Chef Cooking School if you & Denise ever get back to Morocco! I really enjoyed it!

A day of contrasts indeed
Great write up capturing the differences between the mayhem of Marrakesh and the relaxed atmosphere of Essaouira! I'm looking forward to reading more about your time in the latter as we only had a day trip here - and I was on crutches at the time so saw very little beyond the main square and nearest streets! That cookery class sounds excellent - have you tried reproducing the dishes since you returned home?

A day of contrasts indeed
Hi Sarah, For me, this day of our trip definitely did highlight the contrast between busy Marrakesh and the slower pace of life in Essaouira. Actually I liked both, but since I was brought up in a coastal town, I always gravitate toward places near a large body of water. As far as Moroccan cooking, I don't have a tajine so haven't tried making the chicken dish (although it could be done in a slightly different way), but the cooked salads can be more easily replicated at home even without a tajine. It must have been disappointing to have been on crutches and have limited ability to do & see somethings in Essaouira. Even so, you probably saw the best of it. But, I think you deserve another trip to Morocco!! I'd love to return there for another visit, but like you, I also have a long list of new countries I want to see!
