We're spending a second night in Santiago tonight. Today we took a circle tour out to the coast and up to Fisterra? or Finisterre?, (anyway "The End of the Earth"). This rocky point was believed to be the most westerly tip of Europe, but the Romans got it wrong. There's a place in Portugal that can claim that distinction. Anyway, Finisterre was the end of a pre-Christian, pagan pilgrimage back before the Church "re-branded" it in the 9th century and steered it to Santiago. The Church knew a good thing when they saw it! Apparently, back in the day, pagan pilgrims walked to Finisterre and threw their clothes into the Atlantic. Something about symbolizing rebirth...
