Geo: 56.9465, 24.1048 Our holiday to Baltic States was planned late; my daughter had just arrived a day before from Hong Kong for the Christmas and next day we were off for a short break to Riga and Tallinn. We were delayed at the Luton airport due to a signal failure but finally we arrived in Riga in the evening, we had booked the taxi with our hotel Wellton Centrum Hotel & Spa but the driver was waiting at the departure but we got it all sorted out in the end. The hotel was having few teething problem, we did not have any wifi in our room and my daughter was upset but the hotel was fully booked so they promised to change our room next day. The weather was freezing cold with minus temperatures and ... read more

Geo: 40.7492, 14.5007 We had lovely breakfast in the balcony and I could linger in the balcony whole day for the amazing views of Capri but we had to leave today. We really enjoyed our stay at Gocce de Capri and Claudia made us feel like home. We walked to Termini and bought the tickets from the shop for the bus which is on the same side as the shop, opposite the supermarket to go to Sorrento station. We were relieved that the strike was called off and the trains were running but with delays at the Circumvesuviana Train at Sorrento. We waited in the dilapidated grubby train for half hour due to the delays before the train started and it stopped at few stops before reaching Pompeii Scavi which took about 30 minutes. On reaching the ... read more

Geo: 40.6344, 14.6026 Sorrento, an hour south of Naples' urban intensity, is a great base and the gateway to the much drooled over Amalfi Coast. The real Amalfi thrill is the scenic drive; the curving coastal road is exhilarating, so just unwind with memorable Neapolitan fare. It is two hours south of the bustling chaos of Naples and it boasts 100km of coastline and a wild, mountainous interior sprinkled with pastel-hued, historic villages which still follow a traditional way of life. Deemed by UNESCO "an outstanding example of a Mediterranean landscape, with exceptional cultural and natural scenic values," the coast was awarded a coveted spot on the World Heritage list in 1997. This coastline is one of the most beautiful in the world. Marco the manager dropped us to Sorrento station and we bou... read more

Geo: 40.6299, 14.4863 Today we had two other ladies, Helen and Jane from the hotel join us for the boat trip to Amalfi and Positano, the boat was full, this time with many young people. We left Marina del Cantona on time and we passed the Li Galli islands, the three rocky islands called Gallo Lungo, Castelluccio and Rotonda, located a few miles from the beach of Positano, which mirror themselves in the limpid sea facing the pearl of the Amalfi coast. According to the old legends, they were inhabited by the sirens who seduced sailors with their melodious voice; they lost control of their ships that inevitably crashed on the rocks of the islands. In the Odyssey, Odysseus blocked his men's ears with beeswax, and made them tie him to the foot of the mast ... read more

Geo: 40.5509, 14.2429 Next morning we waited on the main road for the tour to pick us up to go to Nerano, Marina del Cantone. The journey was down the bendy lanes and the views were amazing, the ride itself was lovely, we were first ones to board the boat. Nerano is a splendid bathing locality of the Amalfitan and Sorrentina Coast and Is extended gently towards the sea, offering a very special landscape, situated between a small agglomerate of characteristics houses that in a labyrinth of curves extend till marina of the Cantone. The most important beach in Nerano has the view of Capri, Sorrento and Amalfi, besides the famous Marina del Cantone that encloses various beaches, all cobblestone and famous for the crystalline water. The boat was full with many tourists who were staying ... read more

Geo: 40.6263, 14.3757 We left London at 4 am by taxi for Stansted airport, we arrived at Naples on time before 10 am but Antonio, the driver who was supposed to pick us up was half an hour late. He did apologize and he gave us a good running commentary about the places we passed; He also took us on a longer scenic route and to the supermarket for shopping in order to make it up to us which was very nice of him. He dropped us at the Gocce de Capri apartments. On this trip, we were group of four friends and the hotel rooms would been small for us so we decided on staying in the apartment so we would have more space which was a very wise decision. We had a two bedroom ... read more

Europe » United Kingdom » England » Cambridgeshire » Cambridge August 27th 2013

Geo: 52.2025, 0.131237We travelled in a group of four friends and we took the train from Kings cross to Cambridge station. From the station we headed for the Fitzwilliam museum which is my favourite museum in Cambridge. Fitzwilliam museum Fitzwilliam museum has various Artefacts from Ancient Egypt and Sudan, Greece, Rome, Cyprus and the Ancient Near East, covering many aspects of ancient life; from the thirteenth century to the present day. The exhibits are housed on the two floors and they include armoury, ceramics, furniture and paintings. I liked the Egyptian sarcophagus collection and the ancient Greece rooms. The galleries are upstairs which have the collection of Rembrandt etchings and the works from artists like Picasso, Hogarth, Wright of Derby, Monet, Rodin and many more. The antiquities are of exceptional quality; the exhibits are well preserved ... read more

Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097 Today I woke up to another beautiful morning, my son wanted to relax so we cancelled going to Sacre Cour. We took it easy, after breakfast we packed our bags and checked out, the hotel stored our bags and we strolled to Notre Dame. There was 20 minutes queue and we entered this magnificent cathedral with stained glass which tells the bible stories and yes it is worth the wait! There was a Sunday service going on at Notre Dame so we sat there for some time. Then we took a very long leisurely walk on The Ile Saint Louis and we continued on the left bank of river seine on the way we stopped for a creamy gelato ice cream served exquisitely with the different selected flavours arranged in the cone. Geo: 48.8566, 2.35097Today morning, I opened the curtains to look out on to the Gothic church, complete with gargoyles, to a glorious sunny day looking forward to delights the city has to offer. Our hotel does offer breakfast in the room as there is not enough room for a breakfast area but we opted for the fresh local variety that the several Boulangeries in the neighbourhood offered. I got the breakfast goodies while my son got ready, it gave me chance to explore the window displays, particularly of the bakeries and chocolatiers which are stunning; strolling along and taking in these windows is really nice, soon we became regular customers. Geo: 48.8567, 2.35099 The Eurostar section at St Pancras is usually very busy on a Friday morning so we allowed ourselves plenty of time for the customs and long queues, giving us enough time for coffee before departure. The long weekend break to Paris was a treat from my son; the journey was smooth, passing some French countryside on a beautiful sunny day before we pulled into Gare du Nord at 10:17pm local time. We bought the metro tickets at the station which had massive queues and you need the right change for machine so next time we will take a taxi. Riding Metro is a breeze, before long we were at our hotel Relais du Louvre, metres away from The Louvre. The Louvre After dropping our bags we rushed to the magnificent courtyard to see ... read more
