South America July 6th 2006

So Heather missed some important Equator details yesterday. Actually the first one with the answer gets a postcard... We discovered along with the water going straight down the drain, that you actually are weaker on the equator line. It was clearly true (and we were sceptics). Not sure why this woud be since the gravity argument doesn´t seem to make any sense. So scientists and engineers...we need your help. You can also balance a fresh egg on a nail and weight less on the equator as well... So today we got up at the crack of dawn to join the 200 other crazy gringos on the roof of the devils nose train. So called for the appearance of the switch backs down the moutain. Amazing scenery with drop offs on both sides. It was very wierd ... read more

Well we arrived safely into South America. Arriving at Quito airport at around midnight last night was bizzare - there were crouds of locals waiting for their relatives. They really welcome friends and family back to Ecuador - even if the absence is only a week. A bit different than our - oh well just get a cab culture... We got safely to hour hostel and its not bad. Safe, clean, cheap. Today we had a great day. One of Heather´s colleagues lived in Ecuador and a friend of hers took us out to the market town of Otavalo for the day. Driving through the Andes was amazing. Some of the moutains are almost desert like and others are covered in lush equatorial forrests. The market is the local market run by the indiginous people who ... read more

So, it's friday night and Shelagh and I are sitting home fighting over how much we both don't know about travelblog sites. We figured we'd better do a trial run now since it might take us two weeks, and multiple emails to the help desk to get it all sorted out. ... read more
