LAGOS IS REALLY CLOGGED Lagos otherwise known as Eko is really clogged when it comes to the population of inhabitants, but aside that Lagos is the hub of entertainment and industry in Nigeria, This is one of the reason millions of Nigerian youths and foreigners troop into Lagos in search of a greener pasture. Lagos is a land of many opportunities but you really need to work hard and stay at high alert at all times, in order to survive there.
Turkmenistan Nice post! It is always good to see articles on Turkmenistan, it is a very interesting place. Political Holidays (www.politicalholidays.com/turkmenistan) travels to Turkmenistan and other unique destinations. Let us know if you want to share ideas!
Travelling to the Anglophone regions Hi! Interesting read. I live in Yaoundé since September and was surprised to read you hadn't heard about the civil war going on on the Northwest and Southwest regions before coming! Yaoundé is nowadays full with refugees so we hear the stories often. Not in the media tho.
I didn't know Limbé and Buea could still be reached. Everybody that I know that has tried getting there by car has been sent back by the police. THe beaches in Limbé used to be very popular amongst expats, now people just go to Kribi instead.
BTW I know well Angola too, much better place for expats with the nice beaches and the cool restaurants. A pity everything is so expensive!
PHOTO WANTED PLEASE! Hi there :)
My partners sister recently got engaged at Pukehina Beach and as part of their engagement present we would like to have your photo printed. Is there anyway we can have a digital copy of the photo so we can arrange it to be printed at our local photo printer ASAP? We would like to print it in 16x24 or 20x24 so would need to be able to be blown up to this size with good quality? What would It cost us to have this photo? Thank you!
Being Ready Love this blog. Very well said about "being ready" and the right things in life will come - and you will be aware of these! We have experienced this soooo many times! Just go with the flow, open up and it will happend what is supposed to happen. Thanks for this blog and happy travels!
Angola My only memories of Angola, Shaun, are the news of never ending wars and the magnificent music of Bongo. Now I can read of first hand experience of its troubled history and marvel of what you have seen and where you have been. Brilliant.
The shoes that travelled with me Your travels may be famous...but your shoes are also hanging in there Shaun. Some are on display in our "The shoes that travelled with me" thread in the Photography Forum. Check 'em out.
Nigeria I'm so glad you got to see some of what makes Nigeria tick. Understandably, people tend to judge it by the scams and corruption, but there is an amazingly big heart and soul to the country... and not many foreigners get to see or enjoy it. Safe travels :)
Congrats! Congratulations Shaun on an awesome West coast adventure - truely incredible to have walked a road less traveled. Really loved the history, insights & reflections. Good luck on the trip back up the other side!
Epic Journey Thank you for sharing your experiences, Shaun. West Africa does not look too "unapproachable" after reading your blogs. Have a good break from blogging. I look forward to reading your adventures in the future.
Balance in the middle Clean enough and with character is the way to go. No rats for me. I would have been a mess if I'd see that. So glad you followed your desire to go hiking in the west. Fantastic trip.
So often we travel and learn fantastic things that are not in books. Thanks for sharing Cameroon with us.
What an amazing read. Thanks for taking us through this journey to a little known part of the world. I consider myself a pretty hardy traveler but you bring it to a whole new level! Isn’t it rewarding when you chat with locals and discover what lies beneath? When I traveled through Myanmar last year, I learned so much about the simmering tensions just by chatting with anyone who would speak with me.
Africa Thanks Andre. Has been fantastic here and you will be very proud to know that I made a braai last night using charcoal. A lot of fun and the meat was so good
Simply love reading your blogs Enjoy the next leg of your travels. If you're making your way down to Namibia, I have a sister living there who also owns a restaurant, so you should look her up. Let me know:)
Namibia Hey Audrey, yes am in Namibia now. Such a beautiful place and they people are amazing. Send me her details through to my email and hopefully can make it. ShaunTWilliams@gmail.com. Thanks!
Benin history and so much more Best laid plans... these small countries always try to keep you for a few days to increase the economy. We are planners also but world travel has taught us that sometimes the best plan is not to plan. Thanks for taking us along on journey on these off the beaten path locations.
Thanks Ralph, glad you are getting some joy from them. You know that when on road can be hard to squeeze in blog writing but think it’s worth it! A book would be great one day when the backpack is hung up
Hourly rate Yes, it's definitely a tip off if the room rates are by the hour.
I have also run into situations where my lack of language has been frustrating. I speak some French, and I always learn a few words before I go to a new country, so I can usually figure things out. But in Tokyo I felt absolutely lost - I couldn't even read the floor directory in a shopping mall.
