Welcome to part 4 of the blog. Our second day in Georgetown started badly when we decided to catch a bus to Batu Ferrenghi on the north of the island and check out the beach. Me, Reuben, Steve (the Sydney serpent) and Juva were hoping to find a nice bar on the beach where we could waste a few hours. Upon arrival we realised this wouldn't be the case, as it turns out Batu Ferrenghi is a number of huge resorts and building sites, with a dirty stretch of beach, brown water and is full of tourists. We stopped for a beer and some food, which was at least edible And left quickly, feeling fairly disappointed. The evening was much more enjoyable, and we got a real taste of georgetown. After a few beers at the ... read more

Welcome to part 3 of the blog. Unfortunately Leigh had to leave us, shes doing a 1 month jungle trek to raise money for an orphanage in an Indonesian village that was devastated by floods in 2003. If anyone is interested the website is, this might still be in dutch but if you want any more info, send me an email and i can send back the instructions to the English language site.Steve however has decided to stay on and travel with us for a bit. Anyway after we said our goodbyes to Leigh, we spent one more night on pangkor, swimming, eating, drinking on the roof terrace and trying not to step on poisonous frogs in the dark, basically the same as we'd been doing all week. The next morning we caught the ferry ... read more

Welcome to part 2 of the blog. After KL we decided to head for the tropical island of (pulau) Pangkor, this involved a 3 hour bus journey to Ipoh, where we had to wait an hour at a ramshackle bus station, fending off interest from beggars, one of which took an unhealthy interest in reubens beard. After that it was a 2 hour bus journey to Lumut where you can catch a ferry to the island. We were a little worried about finding a place to stay as we hadn't booked anywhere and we were arriving too late to catch the last ferry back to the mainland. We need not have worried though as the 1st place we found 'Nipah bay villa' had plenty of nice rooms at reasonable rates. The one downside as we soon ... read more

Welcome to part 1 of the blog (brown eye on Asia). After a 2 day journey including a 10 hour stop over at Cairo airport, we finally made in to KL feeling very jet lagged and tired. We jumped on the KLIA express train to KL central and from there hopped in a taxi asking to go to 'lok ann' hotel in chinatown. Instead of dropping us at the hotel, our driver stopped outside a crowded and crazy Chinese Market, which he assured us was only a short walk to lok ann. After 5 mins of stumbling around trying not too send people flying with our back packs, we decided to forget lok ann and head for the 1st hotel we saw. This turned out to be the fairly clean but relatively pricey 'tang city' hotel. ... read more
