Fiji Time: 1. A loose definition of time where the actual time can differ widely from that quoted. "Dinner will be at 7pm Fiji Time" means that dinner will be served whenever it is ready. This will depend on several factors including what time the cooks finished doing whatever it is they were doing before they started cooking (probably sleeping), and how long it takes to cook, but has little relation to the quoted figure of 7pm. 2. A state of mind where clocks have little relevance. Things get done in their own time. Eat when you feel hungry, work when you feel like working. Bouncing along the road in an old bus, the sun is shining and a warm breeze is blowing through the open windows. A local cover of 'bright sunshiny day' is playing on the radio, a group of kids are running alongside the bus waving and the Fijians up the back of the bus are laughing. A wave of happiness sweeps over me as I think there is nowhere else I would rather be right now. This is the east coast of Viti Levu, the main island of Fiji. It's one of the poorer parts of the country that barely sees any tourists.The bus runs through 3 times a week and it seems like everyone is out to greet us. North America September 11th 2008

We had 2 bus loads of mainly Aussies and Kiwis on the Grand Northern tour. 24 days to get through 21 states and 2 Canadian provinces. Didn’t matter where we went, we always took the party with us. Even on the bus, first thing every morning when the day song was played there was dancing and singing in the aisle, no matter how tired or hung-over everyone was. We saw a few pretty impressive sites as well. Here’s what I can remember… New York - I had one full day to explore this massive city. Headed out on my own with no map and no plan, but the city was so familiar from seeing it on so many tv shows and movies.
