Hi there
Loving your "series". I've traveled quite a bit and confirm the DIY and staying longer n one place is waaaaayyyyy better. But I also love it that I need not waste much time booking flights, hotels and dinners. So I try to combine both. I usually join a 2 week tour group then stay on or return to wherever I wish to stay longer. It works! Looking forward to reading more of your adventures!

Novice travellers
Thanks so much for reading my blogs and your comments! When we first venture into the 'wide world', it is often easier to have a safety net, like being with a group of people or tour group but the more you travel the more you realise you can actually manage on your own. Our favourite spots are definitely the ones that we can explore on our own, but then again, we also love watching people and chatting to them, so it works both ways!

Memories
You have done such a wonderful job finding the old pictures, scanning them and then brining it all back to life. Thanks for the memories.

It's all thanks to you!
You are welcome and I am thoroughly enjoying doing it, it is great to go through our photos and memories and I am very fortunate to have shared all these special moments with you. Now a few other people can share them with us as well.

Underground trains and shows
The reason we had to change trains on the way to the show was due to a bomb scare on one of the trains. i still remember being so hot after having to run to the show as they did not let you in if you arrived late.

We will patiently await the pictures...
after your vivid verbal description I hope to get a photoshop to help restore the color. I was wondering what costumes you would wear to the beach...then I relaized you meant swimsuits.

This could take a while..
Ha, ha, I suppose that's where the difference comes in when we write from different countries and we have our own slang and words we use - I will try and keep that in mind when I write again. With regards the photos, sometimes I manage to scan the photos and download them and at other times it is quite beyond me and I need assistance from the younger side of my family! However, I will try and persevere but I fear they are not the greatest photos, but sometimes it is worth putting them on the blog.

We are looking forward to your blogs from the past...
this effort is worthwhile even though it will take a lot of perseverence and time. Digitizing old slides and prints, digging out old passports to get the dates of travel, finding old journals or letters to prompt your memories of trips, will all be worth it as now you will have an easily accessible and sharable permanent repository of your trips. We recently had fires nearby and were told to be ready to evacuate. We listed everything that was precious to us, and our photo albums didn't have to be on the list as they were now in the "cloud."

Repairs to car
My wife mentioned most things except that one of the cars broke down at Mana Pools, which was the most Northern part of our trip and far from any garage. The car refused to start and after many heads were put together we diagnosed a faulty started motor. We had no option but to try and repair it ourselves and luckily we managed to share tools, labour and a few beers and get the starter out, clean it up and get it going again. The group was so pleased that our bush mechanic skills got our 81 year old travel companions car going again that they found a bottle of champagne to thank us for our efforts. Being self sufficient in these remote areas is an advantage.
