When I first heard of Bannerghatta, I didn´t give it deserved credit. I had added it to my To Do list as another tourist "chore". I never really cared much for Zoos but I was positively surprised by this visit. It was an early start for a Sunday: 8am. I had arranged a car to get there since I couldn´t find alternative transportation in short notice. After approximately 1 hour drive, the Park didn´t seem to be a hot spot as not many people were around. Since I had my mind set to go on the Grand Safari, I made it my priority for the day. Off I went on a full bus where I managed to get a priviledged seat in the front of the bus, right behind the guide and bus driver. Nature was ... read more

I didn't know that getting a train ticket would be so difficult!! My original plans were laid out to go to Hampi, but for this weekend and coming weekend there would be no available tickets, except for at least 20 people in the Wait List! One suggestion I got from work colleagues was to visit Pondicherry, a beach town in Tamil Nadu State. It's famous spot for those interested in yoga and meditation, and couple Ashram are of International referrence. Well, it seemed interesting to see the beach and combine it with a train trip. Well, a 10hours train trip!!! It left Bangalore at 11:45pm and by 9:50am I was at Pondicherry. It was a bit tricky to find the right booth to buy the ticket (I stood in 3 different lines, only to find that ... read more

Before leaving Bangalore, we stopped at Shiva's temple. It was about 7:30am and we seemed to be the first ones to arrive. We didn't know exactly how to behave - except for knowing we should leave our shoes at entrance. Then we did as we were told. We went up some stairs to see Ganesha's statue and along the way there were strings hung up on the rails as reminders of the so many prayers brought here. Ganesha, as son of Shiva, is known as the remover of all obstacles. Devotees would always turn to Ganesha whenever engaging in new endeavours. Along the path which is designed for visitors, we "boarded" on this journey through the Hymalayas. After bridges were crossed and stairs were climbed, we made it to the Hymalayas stepping on ice stairs towards ... read more

Alex and I decided to see some more of Bangalore and came up with the following plan for the day: - Lalbagh (the Botanical Garden) - Bull Temple - Tipu's Palace - Vidhana Soudha Even before we could put this into action we needed a little help from my favorite tuc-tuc driver around: Govinde. In order to find him, I told Alex we should go to his usual stop and start from there. I didn't have the brains to get his number before. So as we reached to his usual stop, I didn't see his car. After a few seconds browsing at the faces nearby, I see him waving at me with big smile. Once we showed him the plan, off we went! On the way we saw this '67 car which was actually the police's ... read more

- On Outer Ring Road, about 10,000 vehicles stroll by per hour. - Manicure costs you Rs.120 and includes shiatsu massage on hands and arms. - An evening autorickshaw (tuc tuc)'s ride will cost you about Rs.50 to go from MG Road to Brigade Road (about 5-7mins trip) no matter if you're a local or a foreigner. (I thought only foreigners would have to bargain to pay this price). - Mc Donald's options: veg, veg, chicken, chicken, chicken, chicken, fish, and oh, there's more chicken. Those are your options. Plus side: I finally had potato wedges! - If you add eggs white (yokes will give it bad smell) to your henna powder and warm water mix, it'll make your hair softer. - You can pay Rs.150 to watch a movie, but it'll cost you Rs.200 ... read more

In common usage "chaos" means "a state of disorder". For sure I'm not the first one to use this word in association to India's every day life. You see so many in all possible walks of life you come to think of your own culture as dull and homogeneous. Having Brazil for the melting pot it is, Brazilians cannot be narrowed down to one particular face or color or type. On the other hand, you can easily portray the typical Indian woman in her black long hair and saree or a fellow Indian man boasting his full moustache. I cannot express my sincere respect to the drivers around here. No lights, no post signs, narrow roads and streets found in poor conditions and very heavy traffic: the byproduct could only be chaos and disaster. However, I ... read more

I was "lucky" enough to start my first day at work in India on a bandh (nation-wide strike) day... The whole country is exercising their right to express disatisfaction to fuel price hike - I would have supported that - if only I was Indian... Instead, we had to start our day at 6am. It means I'd have to have breakfast at 5am and leave the hotel at 5.30am the latest. The reason for the early start is that the strike will happen between 6am thru 6pm. In the meantime, it'd be dangerous to be in the streets. It could be risky for the drivers, for instance, to be out in the streets when angry mobs may try to stop those who don't join the cause. Arriving in Bangalore really strikes you. It's a lot like you read in any other travel blog: there's nowhere you look you won't find people. Lots of them. So this gives the place a lively and dynamic atmosphere. I'm loving it! We were soon directed to the hotel shuttle and got there in about 40 minutes. On the way, I learned about Monday's nation-wide bandh (strike) against the prices rise, including fuel. Schools, autorickshaws, shops - except for some public transportation - will not open/working. Can you imagine that? For a moment I thought I would have a day off (hehe) but I was proved wrong when I read the papers. It stated all IT, bank and transportation segment would not be affected by it. What a shame (lol). Anyway, here I am at the hotel. ... read more

What can I say... after 14 hours and 40 minutes*, all I could think of was a bed. However, before I managed leaving the airport, I had to find out myself about 2 other places I had to stop by before I was okay for immigration. Done that, hotel shuttle found, checked in at hotel, planned a two-hour tour, grabbed some water at the coffee shop and bought some postcards: I was ready to find my room. :) I got about 4 hours sleep (since I didn't manage to sleep on the plane) and at quarter to six, I was at the hotel lobby waiting for Alexandel (colleague at work) and the tour guide. I was a bit anxious about the tour since I wasn't sure I'd see much in 2 hours only. Surprise, surprise, the ... read more
