One important milestone reached - I've now been here for 6 months! In a way it feels like forever as this is certainly ‘home’ but in another way I can’t believe that I am 1/3 my planned stay here. Speaking about home, I’m soon to move homes. Sharing again but this time only with one other person, a girl. The place is closer to the city centre, work and the bus/train stations for trips to London and the airport. Also I’ll get my own bathroom, the place is a little funkier and sharing with one person should be easier than with two - of course the downside is slightly more expensive rent. I’ll also be signing a 6 month rental agreement, amazingly at 30 it will be the first time I’ve ever properly rented. This weekend ... read more

Left Prague on Thursday to return home to Manchester. My last couple of days in Prague were nice and relaxing - its been nice having a good 8+ hours sleep a night, can’t remember when I last had a good night’s sleep. Tuesday was fairly low key, weather wasn’t the best (cold and a little wet) so stayed indoors when I could. Checked out the Bodies exhibition which (ignoring ethical queries over the sourcing of the bodies from China) was pretty awesome. I’m guessing it’s the same one that was shown in Perth earlier in the year. Having watched the related TV show (with the live dissections and creepy German guy), being close to actual dead bodies with specific tissue, muscles, organs etc revealed for close inspection didn’t faze me in the slightest, but the sight ... read more

Loving Prague so far, such a great city! Arrived Saturday afternoon and immediately warmed to the city despite the cold and overcast weather. Had to catch a bus and two trains to get to my hostel but even that was okay with no dramas or delays, the people on the trains were nice and my week long transport ticket to/from the airport and within the city centre was a bargain for around 12 aussie. The hostel that Claire recommended is well located, well priced (20 aussie or so a night, on the high price for Prague but worth it) and is pretty funky inside - lots of polished concrete, exposed brick, a lift (!), free internet/wi-fi, really nice private bathrooms and the comfiest hostel beds yet. There are 4 beds in my room, first night it ... read more

The past week and a bit has been pretty hectic for me. Last Friday I headed down to London, crashing with Vaughan and Lucy again (their couch and I are becoming best of friends). Saturday night was Lee Ann’s leaving party in Soho. A good night, apparently, not that I remember much - Vaughan and I started drinking early in the day and that, combined with being tired from the bus to London and a busy couple of weeks, clearly took their toll on me. All very tragic, I don’t remember much of the night (passing out on the couch was involved) but recovered around midnight and managed to dance andhave some fun. Early Sunday I headed back to Manchester and that night started the first of 5 gigs in a row: Sunday - Editors: dark ... read more

Well the new temp job is going well, everyone is really nice (lots of silly, insane conversations and lots of laughing so naturally I’m fitting in nicely), it’s been great being able to walk to work and working in the city centre amongst all the shops (I have resisted clothes shopping during lunch, well so far anyhow!). Speaking about clothes - casual dress every day (I still suit up most days though). The offices are located near St Ann’s square which is full of fancy boutiques (think King St, Perth), old buildings and a small market area with heaps of yummy food. The area is really pretty (see pics and note the beautiful blue sky, a few really nice sunny, almost warm days were had) and the office building is also pretty - ornate cornices and ... read more

Well the cold weather is starting to settle in here - and its not even close to winter yet … and for the first time in my life I’ve started wearing scarves (£1 each from the bargain bin at Neu Look thank your very much) and am seriously contemplating thermals. Alright, it’s not that bad, yet, but I know its only a matter of time. I finish up with Otten Penna on Tuesday. I’ve really enjoyed my time at Otten Penna, everyone has been really nice (they all want me to stay but there isn’t enough work for that) and I must admit it was nice sitting upstairs in my little attic office, listening to music and doing the occasional bit of work (Mallies workloads would shock most poms!). Definitely won’t miss writing manual cheques (some ... read more

A long post, sorry if I tend to dribble on …oh and thanks to all those that have added messages or comments - keep them up and love to hear what is happening back home. If I can bore you with the mundanity of my life you guys can return the favour too :-) Barb: no plans for Xmas yet, would love to have a white Christmas so might try to organize that (Sweden perhaps? see below) Spent the weekend in London, all rather last minute but a friend I hadn’t seen in years was in London on holidays so I made the trip down so that we could catch up. Left Manchester straight from work and arrived in London pretty late and didn’t get to Hotel Vienelle until late (luckily the exact time that V ... read more

Last weekend was a fairly tame one. Saturday I went to the New Islington Urban Folk festival which was a free festival on the grounds of a new housing development just outside the city centre - think East Perth during the redevelopment phase. Lots of random, local folk and rock type acts with a smattering of poetry, electro and other activities. Everything was well run and it was quite fun just walking the three tents and checking out random acts. Happened to run into a friend which was good as well. Favourite tent was a tiny little tent with a vintage clothing stall and a cake stall (yum) and a small stage for the performers and room for 10 or so people only, the rest of us having to listen from outside. Saw a couple of ... read more

Very quiet week this week so with a need to blog about something, I thought I'd post some pics of Manchester and ramble on a bit about the place. Wednesday morning was rather pleasant weather wise so I decided to walk to work armed with my camera and fuelled by a mid way latte and pastry break (hey it was a 10k walk I needed some sugar). Laing O'Rourke - One for Mallies staff, sad I know but I find it a little amusing that their Manchester offices are only a couple hundred meters from my place. Fosters/Royal Brewing - again not far from my place, this is where Fosters is made in the UK (and the Poms think its Australian!). All very good except I often pass the brewery when I go for my run ... read more

Back in Manchester after my Bank Holiday weekend in London, and am now sitting here watching highlights from the Reading and Leeds festivals on the tele. Naturally I now wish I’d gone to the Leeds festival, but after half a day at Get Loaded in the Park, I doubt I could cope with a full 3 day festival. The Get Loaded festival was pretty good, in a way very similar to the Big Day Out back home but on a smaller scale, maybe 10,000 people max. The Clapham Common grounds are not far from London central (an easy 20 min tube ride from Kings Cross) and the festival site was pretty small which made running between the stages a hell of a lot easier than BDO (and less crowds helped too). I really only went to ... read more
