April 3/4, 2012- Today we got up early, excited to get our next adventure underway. Our flight actually left from Ithaca, NY, which was a nice way to start the trip. Ithaca was about an hours drive from Syracuse and it is a no muss, no fuss airport. No lines, no waiting...PERFECT. Our flight to Philadelphia was short and sweet. Our layover in Philadelphia was somewhat long, but we didn't mind looking around the shops and getting some lunch. I was lucky enough to be able to purchase our tickets with frequent flyer miles, so the trip to Ithaca and long layover in Philadelphia was offset by the price of the ticket. After our lunch and shoppping we set up camp by our gate. My mom stretched out and took a nap, while I caught up ... read more

April 6,2012-We slept well on our last night in Barcelona and we were ready to start our day. A quick breakfast and then we were out the door. We started with the Block of Discord. This is a wonderful city block filled with sumptuous mansions. Each of the home owners wanted to show up or out do their neighbors so they hired architects to go all out. Each house is more elaborate than the next but the most outrageous by far is the one designed by Gaudi. He created something that looks like it is out of The Nightmare Before Christmas.  It was amazing to see the amount of thought and consideration that the architects put into each house. A quick subway ride took us to a tram to make the climb up to Mountjuic. When ... read more

April  5, 2012- Our first day in Barcelona started with breakfast in the hotel. After some delicious pastries, we headed for the Barcelona Cathedral. The Cathedral was gorgeous. It was set up very different from a lot of other cathedrals we have seen in Europe. The Choir was smack dab in the middle of the church,  and there was a crypt with stairs under the main altar. This really limits the number of seats in this church. Off the church  was a cloister with a courtyard. The courtyard had geese, which Amy tried to make friends with. The geese did not want to be friends, and started a large vocal rebellion in this quiet sanctuary. After a trip to the roof with a view of the harbor, we headed back to the hotel to pick up ... read more

Europe » Austria » Salzburg August 29th 2011

August 29th- Another early morning train for us. We left the hotel around 6:30 and caught a bus to the train station. We were able to stow our luggage there, while we took a day trip to Halstatt. The train ride was about 2.5 hours and we were at the ferry around 9:30 am. Halstatt is a tiny town southwest of Salzburg, which is absolutely beautiful. It is so tiny, that the railroad tracks cannot fit on that side of the lake. So you arrive at the Halstatt train station on one side of the lake (just the station), then you take a small ferry to Halstatt. The train ride was very picturesque. The ferry ride took about 5 minutes and before we knew it we were walking around in downtown Halstatt. This sleepy little town ... read more

August 28th- After a good sleep, we were refreshed this morning. The cooler temps made for lovely sleeping weather in Salzburg. There was a small wait this morning for the shared bath, but not too long. My mom kept checking the bathroom, and when it was finally opened she came back in and said "Punch it Chewy".The facilities are clean, so I can't really complain. Breakfast this morning was at a small place next to our hotel, and it definitely was the worst breakfast yet. Rather than a choice of your breakfast, we were served. The food tasted good, but with no choice, it has to be ranked the worst breakfast. The next stop was Mirabelle square to catch our Sound of Music Tour. Our tour guide, Christine, was very good. We were taken to most ... read more

August 27th- today was an early wakeup call morning for us. We were up at 5:30 and onto the subway around 6:30. We headed for the main train station in Prague. We found our train and tucked ourselves into our private cabin. This train was an older Czech train, but I was happy that the window in the cabin was able to open. I did hang my head and my camera out of the window for awhile taking some high speed shots. I believe my mom fed me some quaaludes this morning, as I couldn't keep my eyes open. I did figure out how to make the seat into a bed, so I was knocked out for a few hours. When we got to Cserk Basnock, we had to move up into the front of the ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague » Old Town August 26th 2011

August 26th- Today, we had a lie in (sleep in) at least a little bit.  We both needed a few extra winks today. By the time we got our breakfast and got our the door, it was 10am.  (A side note about the Hotel Davinci beds... Mom loves them. To me, they feel like you are lying on a piece of plywood.) We headed immediately for the Castle side of the river. We started at a Franciscan Monastery and wondered thru several churches on our the way to the Castle. Once at the Castle, we purchased a ticket to go into several of the Castle buildings, including the Old Royal Palace, St. Vittas Cathedral, and The Golden Lane. We took a few hours and took a gawk at these buildings. I was able to grab some ... read more
