We had a really good night’s sleep at the motel and we got away at around 11 am. We were in no hurry to get to Bolton, which was just as well, as the traffic on both the M5 and M6 was very heavy. Our original plan was to go off the motorway if we saw anything of interest, but because the going was slow we decided to go straight through with a couple of coffee breaks. We got to Bolton about 5 pm and we went to Tesco to get some supplies. This is a huge shop and we spent a while having a look around before we headed off to Dave and Gill’s place. Dave and Gill had arranged for their kids to come around it was great to see them all again. We ... read more

Today we left Penzance to head east back towards the centre of England. We went up the main A30 and then went north to Padstow, a wonderful fishing village on the northern coast of Cornwall. Our plan here was to have a meal or fish in chips in one of Rick Stein’s restaurants or cafe. We really had no preference and on a whim decided to try The Seafood Restaurant. As this establishment is very popular, we didn’t expect to get a seat but on this day we were very lucky. We turned up on a day that was maybe a bit slower and were able to get a table for lunch, no problems at all. We had a choice of a la carte or they have a 3 course lunch menu which is only £35.00 ... read more

Today’s weather turned out to be a little overcast, windy and a bit cooler than yesterday. We both had a good night’s sleep in our cottage a few doors up from Richard and Gail, which Gail had arranged for us to stay in. Today we decided to go to Lands End and have a look around the most westerly point of England. There is a tourist village here with shops and various other attractions including a Doctor Who display. Gina and I went in our car and Richard, Gail, Koren and Mawgan went in their car. Just before setting off, we went around and had a tour of Koren and Ricks’s bungalow. We had a walk around the park area, which is privately owned, for about 90 minutes and went on a retired RNLI lifeboat. This ... read more

25th May dawned with a sunny day. After a good night’s sleep w both felt refreshed and ready to go for our long trip down to Cornwall to the very western tip of England. Before we headed off west we had a couple of places to visit in Fareham. A visit to the bank for dad and then off to the most famous bakery in the world - Soothills. The quality of the products in this bakery has to be seen and tasted. All baked fresh and for the last 63 years the most popular bakery in this area. We spent £12 on cakes. Lardy cakes, jam doughnuts and huge rum balls. I don’t think I have ever spent that much money on cakes at one time. It was well worth it though. If ever you ... read more

Today we arrived at Heathrow and as usual had to walk half way across Heathrow from the plane to customs and immigration. It seems every time we come here, our aircraft is parked at the furthest extremity. We cleared customs with no problems and then had a cup of coffee and went to get the shuttle to collect the car. We were taken to the Avis depot and within 30 minutes were on our way in a blue Peugeot 207. Nice little car. We then headed off around Heathrow Airport to pick up the motorway and head south to Basingstoke in Hampshire. We had the guy at Avis print us off an AA route listing of where we wanted to go in Basingstoke but he printed us off a route to someplace else, Kettering, we think. ... read more

Today is the start of our holiday with a lot of air travel to look forward to. We commence our day by travelling from Brisbane to Sydney at 9 am to connect to our Virgin Atlantic flight to London via Heathrow leaving at 2.30 pm. The flight through to London was uneventful, with both of us managing to get some sleep on the way and we arrived at Heathrow at about 5.10 am Monday, about 15 minutes ahead of schedule. We had a short stopover in Hong Kong at the new airport at Chep Lap Kok which is certainly a lot more impressive than the old one. The old airport at Kai Tak was amazing though as you could look into residents windows in their apartments as you came into land. The service on Virgin Atlantic ... read more

Day 28 HOME! Not much sleep last night as we went to bed at afer 3am after getting those last minute night photos of the twin towers and the pummeling we got from the massage. Still it’s been a fabulous four weeks and it has just gone so bloody quick. Up at 6am for a bit of fruit and coffee for breakfast before our van turned up on time at 7am to take us to the LCCT. An uneventful journey, we watched the sun come up and then I’m afraid David and Mary’s last dramas of the holiday began. We all checked in and paid our customary chunk of excess baggage, which we all knew was coming but at RM20 per kilo not unexpected. After checking in we went outside for Gina to have a smoke ... read more

Day 27 Our last full day in Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia before we fly out tomorrow. Abby and Stu and the girls fly out Monday so it’s just about all over red rover. Today we all got up early because Peter had a dentist appointment and try as much as I did last night , I could not find the appointment card. We assumed it was 10am but the card miraculously turned up and it was for 11am. Anyway, we left about 10am with Abby and Stu and the girls and we left them at Bangsar to go the Mid Valley Mega Mall. David and Mary stayed home to do some packing to mail some stuff home as we had looked on the internet and found out that some post offices were open on Saturday. They ... read more

Day 26 Another day dawns and as it’s Friday we probably should go to a mosque. Problem with that is, most mosques do not allow visitors on Fridays or during prayer times. Three trips here and w still have not been inside one. We will have to rectify that next trip. Today we pretty much split up and went our separate ways. Last minute shopping and everyone with different needs aspirations. So I’ll just detail each persons exploits till 6pm individually. David and Mary headed off out into the suburbs to the Mid Valley Megamall. This place is just huge with a shopping centre that is just over 500m long and on 6 levels- and Westfield thinks Chermside is big. They spent all day there and got back to the house late afternoon. Day 25 Today started as usual - late. Got up before 10am and had breakfast and then we got a visit from Anita, our maid, and Christina the owner of the house. We had a good long chat and she told us of some of the best places to visit. Some of them we had already done and regrettably time is getting much too short to do some of her other suggestions. Peter & Gina and Mary & David had packed up some items to be mailed back to Australia as the cost of surface mail is a considerably cheaper option than excess baggage. David had already sent back several parcels and sent another an Peter and Gina sent a couple today. Strangely enough, even though we all went our separate ways today, we all ended ... read more
