Well it has been a month since I last updated this and a lot has happened in that time. As you know I was in Honduras out in a small rural town in the area of Santa Barbara. My town was actually much bigger than I was expecting and I think was one of the bigger ones of the group. It was called San Miguel and about 1500 people live there. It is an agriculturally based economy for the most part and people grow a lot of corn, beans, yucca, bananas, papayas and some other stuff. Many people also have cows that they can either sell or use for milk and meat. My family was not an average family and was probably the most well-off in town. Their house was certainly the nicest. This was a ... read more

Well this is our last day in Xela. Tomorrow we leave for what is called The Plunge. We are divided into grous of four and each group is assigned a different city to go to and has to find some information about that place. Once we have gotten everything we need, we will meet in Antigua on Monday. We will be on our own and responsible for finding all our own transportation and places to stay and eat during these couple days. This past week has been pretty busy but it has been fun. Last Saturday we hiked up to a small lake in the crater of a volcano that is supposedly a sacred place for the Mayas. That night we got to go to a soccer game of the local team against a team from ... read more

I haven´t given you many updates yet so I thought I´d fill you in on what I´ve been doing this past week. Everyday we have class until one and then we usually have an activity in the afternoon. In my class I have been trying to learn the grammer rules and structure that I haven´t really known til now. It has been interesting at times and frustrating as well. There are some things that are really helpful but some of the time is spent going over stuff that seems really basic and obvious to me. It is good though because I am able to correct some mistakes that I never knew I was making. Since we are in class for five hours it is good to mix things up because I get tired of grammer very ... read more

So after 26 hours of traveling we finally arrived in Xela. Our host families were all waiting for us at the bus station. My friend Stephen and I are living with an older couple who has been hosting students for over 25 years now. Our house is not huge but it has everything we need. We are about a 20 minute walk away from the language school. On our first day here we had most of the day to explore the city on our own and learn how to get to some important places. We had lunch at a Taqueria near to the central park. Most of our meals will be at our houses though but we might get to eat out a few times a week. Today was our first day of class. We met ... read more
