Friday 4.6.2010 day 233 I think we had a little too much sun today.... So we got up early today to make the most of our last day at this resort before we move on to a new resort tomorrow. So we found a fantastic spot under one of the little coconut huts and did some sunbaking and some swimming in the clear blue waters. We were out there a little longer than the other days and we got a little red but I tan really well so it should look fantastic tomorrow. Although I am feeling a little bad about the lack of site seeing we have done this week I am not too worried as we have a lot planed for the next few weeks. ... read more

Saturday 29.5.2010 day 227 Check into the Imperial Fiesta Club at Casa Maya Cancun Today we checked out of our resort in Merida and got a bus to Cancun this was a 4 hour trip and it cost $26 Aus each for a first class buss. We could have got a second class bus for $17 Aus but it would have taken 6 hours and did not take the toll roads. The toll roads are safer. It cost us $4 for the taxi to the buss and $10 for the taxi from the buss to the hotel. When we got to the hotel we where meet by the person looking after us doing the stay and she gave us free cocktails and told us about all the sites and how to get the buss to town ... read more

Thursday 27.5.2010 day 225 Izamal Today we got the buss to the city of Izamal (the city if hills), it is located right in the middle of the peninsula. It is one of the oldest city’s in Yucatan and it’s history is attached to religious events. Izamal was conquered by the Spaniards. We went to the Franciscan Convent that was built from and over one of the Mayan pyramids. It is also famous the story of the monk Fray Diego de Lamdo, it’s founder who burned all Indian scripts, and feeling remorse for what he had done, tried to write all he could remember of the ways of Indians in the ‘Relation of Things of the Yucatan’.
