Finally, on our last day the sun comes out to play once again and the day was beautiful. We spent the morning walking in Noosa National Park choosing to take the Coastal track which led us to Dolphin point. We stopped off there and saw many groups of dolphins playing in the sea. Enroute we also spotted a Kookaburra and yet another Koala. :) The afternoon was spent shopping and chilling on the beach. It was really nice to have been able to see Noosa for what it is. When it rains nearly everything is not possible! We left the next day and arrived in Rainbow Beach in time for the briefing for the Fraser Island tour. We got placed with 8 others who were from the UK, Netherlands, Canada and an American. After introductions and ... read more
The weeks are passing by soo quickly and we've seen quite a few places in the space of a week, problem is finding the time and place to update everyone at home all about it. finding an internet connection which is decent enough to upload photos is proving tricky. Thankfully we now have access to Peterpans free internet as we booked tours with them. So here goes an attempt to round up what we have been up to this last week. I will upload photos soon but in the meantime you can view the lot on http://picasaweb.google.com/cookye/ for mine and http://picasaweb.google.com/scakebread/ for Sarahs' New photos have just been added! So once we left Byron our next destination was Surfers Paradise. We only had one night there as we wanted to spend more time up the coast ... read more
Our first full day in Byron was lovely and hot so guess what we did....?? SUN = TAN... lol We spent most of the day on the beautiful beaches before ending up in Peterpans where we sorted out the rest of tours in Oz. Later on that night we were on the Goon again! Met some Aussies Matt and Mark ( from Sydney) and Caroline from Brisbane. Together we went out to the only place that was open on a sunday night - La La Land. Place smelt funny but eh.. a few more drinks and dancing later you forget about it. We died the next day but had to get up early for our trip to Nimbin. We thought it would be a laugh and picked a good day to go as the sun wasn't ... read more
Just spent a few hectic days on the road travelling from Sydney to Byron Bay. We've just arrived here tonight and thought we would catch up on emails etc rather than go out. We decided to stop off at Port Macquarie and Coff's Harbour on route and had one night in each. In 'Port' we awoke to find it raining quite heavily but then it cleared quite quickly so we went on a two hour kayak tour on the river and sea. Went through and under (just about) mangrove trees on the river and saw water lizards and more fruit bats but unfortunately no koalas in the trees. Ali was with the guide so had it a bit easier and Amy & I were together. They hardest part was paddling out of the port towards the ... read more
Back into Sydney after our trekking in the Blue mountains we were knackered and needed a night in. We checked into Wake Up! which is by far the nicest hostel we have stayed in so far and then spent the evening catching up on washing and a hearty dinner before chilling out with some more Goon... ( you can see the trend... hehe) We ended up meeting 5 lads from Loughborough who were in their gap years which meant Sarah kept mentioning places in Lufs that me and Ali had no idea about. We chatted to the early hours of the morning which meant most of the next morning was spent lying in. Our last full day in Sydney wasn't productive as planned so we ended catching up on emails/photos before a brief trip to Bondi ... read more
After stayin in Sydney we decided on a few day in the Blue Mountains- now a world Heritage site. We caught the train from Sydney Central to Katoomba; was nice to see some of Sydney surburbia on the trip up. We stayed in a homely hostel called the Flying Fox- it had a fire in the living room and free breakfast in the morning. We got there about lunchtime and went for lunch at the Parakeet cafe in Katoomba town centre- kind of rural town with tourism, lots of second hand book stores! Walked down to Echo Point where you can see the three sisters (main attraction) varying stories, but something along the lines of scary creature that haunted the valley. There was a father who was a witch doctor who went to war so to ... read more
After a gruelling overnight bus from Melbourne to Sydney we arrived early in the morning. Again we couldn't check into the hostel so dumped our bags into storage and had a wander around. We went for a walk along Cockles bay, right around to the maritime museum before coming back through China Town. We then went to the Sydney observation tower to catch some awesome views of Sydney and go on a simulation ride - Oz Trek which gave us an insight into some of the highlights to Australia. Finally we could check into Base - which did not live up to expectations, it was okay but the kitchen lacked even the basic essentials like tin openers! - cooking dinner of Jacket Potato with cheese and beans even proved difficult!! The afternoon was spent walking through ... read more
Hey Everyone, Apologies for not writing sooner. We have been on the road driving the Great Ocean Road these past few days. We decided not to hang around in Melbourne long so rented a car and left on Tuesday. Before leaving, we went to a comedy show on Monday night and had the most random night so far.... After watching a comedian named Mark Butler we planned to go to anothe pub which hosted a Neighbours Night... unfortunately for us... we did not take down its address and couldn't find it. Eventually we came back to the pub we saw the show in and had a few drinks before running into the comedian we saw earlier. He was a british but had moved out to Melbourne for 4 years. We were later joined by another comedian ... read more
Hey, Sorry about all the confusion with the last blog. It was pants and we've now gone onto this one. We've now arrived in Melbourne and checked into a nice hostel down in St Kilda's. Its not far from the beach so we managed to go for a walk whilst waiting to to check in. Its the International Comedy Festival right now so hopefully we will get to see some performances before we leave here. Right now we are all suffering from jet lag and with only 3 hours proper sleep its a struggle to stay up at 9pm!! hahaha. Spent his afternoon navigating the tram system around the city centre but think will leave alot till the next few days. Will try and transfer the other posts across at some time... and hopefully some photos! ... read more
Hello, we may have had only 28 hours in Singapore but we managed to squeeze quite alot into the time. Last night we went for dinner at Clarke Quay before hitting the New Asia bar on the 72nd floor of the Swissotel near City Hall. We had some lush cocktails whilst taking in the amazing night views of the city. With a group of drunken Belgians cutting up some moves on a makeshift dancefloor, we sat there laughing for ages before deciding to call it a night in time for the last MRT home. Today we spent the day exploring Singapore and got to see the Botanical Gardens including the Orchid Gardens which was really pretty. We then went to the Raffles Hotel to look around but decided to give the Singapore sling at the Long ... read more
