I spent Saturday walking around the Old City within Chiang Mai which is where my B&B is located and where most of the attractions...wats, shopping and restaurants...are located. The Old City is surrounded by a moat and is perfectly square in shape so easy to get around and have a good sense of where you are most of the time. It's much more manageable than Bangkok but more touristy like Koh Samui. Lots of wats, shrines, monks, tourists and very nice locals. It is impossible to smile at a local and not get a smile back, even from the most serious of faces. There aren't any trains here. The major modes of transportation are the songtaew and tuk tuk.
