Thanks for the email! Hello MaryGrace, thanks for the comment/email. It was beautiful, though agree David was hot and humid. There also didn't appear to be much to see in David. Anyway, take care and I hope you're return trip is great.
You could still sit me down, I suppose... Well, I think I only actually saw half of the first one as it was missing disc 2. And I haven't seen Two Towers or Return of the King. I always meant to, just never found 12 hours of time to do it. When I return, my friend, when I return. Of course, Lost comes first but I'll watch that in my overnight stay in Miami before returning.
You Haven't Seen? Dude, you have not seen Lord of the Rings yet? Oh my....you are lucky you never told me before you left on this adventure cause I would have sat you down right away and made you watch the extended versions of the three movies I own. A mere 12 hours later and you would be done!
All right....we can discuss Lord of the Rings when you get back. Talk to you soon.
Eric
Same trip in 2004 not much change I took the same trip in Sep 04 R/T SJ to David to SJ. CR is so very beautiful on that bus high up in the cloud forrest most of the trip. Going back this July, can't wait. The food was good at the lunch stop in 04. David was hot and humid. Boquete was great as was SJ.
Do you know the way to San Jose Hey Gary...about a week ago Garrison Keillor did a "News from Lake Woebegon" story on his radio show about a couple from Lake Woebegon heading to California to visit a relative. The relative lived in San Jose, California. When the couple arrived at the MSP airport the husband accidentally pressed the Spanish language button on the self service ticket kiosk. He knew a little spanish so he proceeded on. There were two listings for San Jose under "destinations" and he just pressed the second one.
Long story short the couple from Lake Woebegon wound up in the San Jose you are now headed to. They quite enjoyed it...they chased a bird through a jungle and onto a beach. They went skinny dipping and a monkey stole their pants and their camera. They figured out they were not in California, but they got there eventually.
Their relative noted that they were quite late in arriving. In true Minnesota fashion they just said, "Oh, you know...there were some delays."
I just liked the story and thought of you when I heard it.
Have fun in San Jose and watch out for the monkeys!

Hmmm..can't say I blame you... Yeah...I tolerated the bugs but they will catch you offguard and many are not particularly small. I did also take some pics of a tarantula that was in one of the huts. My pics makes it look really huge because I used zoom with it on the roof, but it wasn't actually as big as it appears (though not tiny either). That's okay, there's plenty to see in Ecuador without going to the Amazon.
Gary,
You had me in tears laughing. You're a great writer! Very funny stuff. Maybe writing a book is in store for you. Anyway, we look forward to your next blog, and are so glad you are safe and sound and out of there.
Love,

so awesome Hey Gary - What you are doing is making me soooo jealous. I just want to get out of here and do some exploring. I can't wait to hear about the Amazon. I hear ya on the bus and the sore bum. Been there several times. But didn't that first bus make you really appreciate the second one? Funny how that is. :) Take care and keep the posts coming so I can live vicariously through you!
Wow, 275 miles worth of bumpy roads... your ass must be completely sore. However, it looks to be an awesome adventure and something you will never forget. Keep the updates coming and take care.
wow The view must have been great. It was warm and sunny here today. I had the front door open for a while. I hope you are having a great time. Maybe we will hire you to be out tour guide.
Your nuts but have fun Well I still think your nuts but you might as well have fun being nuts! Me and mom are too old to be nuts, no wait were nuts too but we have fun being nuts at home! Will you be any where near all war talk areas?
hello foreign land hope you get settled well when you get there. it's good to be adventurous but it's ok to take a cab too. :) anyway, i will think about you every day on your journey and can't wait to hear all the exciting things you are doing.
See Ya! Have a good time Gary! It is only 3degrees here and I am sure you will not miss the weather. Let me know how the food is and make sure to be brave...but not too brave when trying the local foods.
More Similar than we Think
I thought going to Lima would be like that, too, but there was a WalMart and a Home Depot visible from the road on the way from the airport into Lima. Not as different as I thought--or hoped!

After 36 years living in Minneapolis, living the "conventional" life, and taking the 2 weeks of vacation earned to get to somewhere quick in the US, it's time to find "new places to go"... new places to go physically - (never been to Ecuador or Panama, and only a week in Nicaragua in 2006), new places to go mentally- finding a new way of thinking about the world and my life, and hopefully financially - new places to go to earn a living and/or a way of making a living!
So, here we go...I saved the cash, rented out the house, and told my friends and family I'm read... full info
