27th of july we went to north bali. We started in the Sandan Butterfly park where we saw some really nice butterflies. We held big night butterflies and also a sort of "walking leaves". After the butterfly park we visited Jatiluwih, known for its magnificent view on the rice paddies. Close to Batukaru mountain you can view miles of rice paddies, very impressing. More north is bedugul which is a city next to the Bratan lake. We visited a traditional market and had lunch. The Temple Ulun Danau Bratan is close to the lake and has a very nice garden. Then, on to the GitGit waterfalls. There are two big waterfalls to be seen here. Also, our tourdriver has his house here. We were invited in and were given some homegrown coffee. Very good. The house ... read more

On the 23rd of july we explored Bukit Peninsula. We started the day in Nusa Dua, which is a new, rich part of south bali. The most luxureous hotels and villas can be found here. Also, there are many watersport companies here that offer parasailing, glass bottom boat tours, diving, snorkeling, banana boat ride, flyboat,... We took the glass bottom boat ride to turtle island where we were able to hold animals like bats, eagles, snakes, turtles,... I do feel sorry for the caged animals that need to deal with the many loud tourists every day. Because of the strong wind the water was a bit unclear and we could not see the corals very well. Later i also had a try with a jetski. Jumping the waves is so exciting! There are no pictures of ... read more

Arrival We have finally arrived at our Villa. The trip was long but everything went fine. No luggage lost, no problems with customs, ... The people here are extremely friendly. Everybody wants to carry your luggage at the airport :) Offcourse, not for free. Traffic is as I have read, chaotic. Renting a car or a bike will not be an option for me. Whole families riding together on the scooter, up to 4 people. Also, the balinese seem to be able to transport more on their scooter than we can in a small car. Leaving the airport, we already saw some nice stone art (see photos) and alongside the coast there are kites everywhere. Maybe in preparation for the yearly Bali kite festival? The staff in Aleesha Villas gave us a nice welcome and the ... read more

The 20th of july we met a tourdriver that would take us to the art villages, barong dance and kintamani. The day after he awaited us at the hotel to drive us to Batubalan. In Batubalan a Barong dance is performed every morning. Dancers perform an ancient story about the Hindu gods, accompanied with gamelan music. After enjoying the dance we left for Celuk, known for its silvercrafting. We saw three older women creating very fine silver jewelry with a minimum of tools. In the shop there were thousands of necklaces, bracelets, silver decoration and so on. Marie-Anne bought a nice bracelet. Close to Celuk we visited another village known for its skilled painters. In a paintshop two men were making the most beautiful paintings. The gallery were the paintings are displayed is very big with ... read more
