Rich isn't a watery kind of guy Rich and open water do not agree...so swimming in water 1/2 mile deep is about the last thing he's about to do. But he was happy to hang out on deck chatting with the other landlubbers and taking lots of great pictures.
He doesn't want one yet - waiting for more megapixels. Still using the Sony H1, had a lot of fun with it on this trip. It actually felt a little ostentatious; several Kiwis remarked about how fancy it was.
answers I'd taken a goofy little spill down the bank of a creek the day before, and was a bit too bruised to bungy. The t-shirt was in a glass case for viewing so we couldn't buy it but if we were obsessive enough I suppose we could have stolen it (or "nicked it" in Kiwi parlance...)
The closest thing to a LOTR t-shirt we bought was from Mount Sunday (location of "Edoras" in The Two Towers), but that's another tale to be told soon...
yowza!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!! way to go Rich! what an awesome picture of you. Uncle Mike-what's up dude? why no jump for you??! did you really almost run down a kid?!?! So Miss Baltimore really picked your brains eh?
I see you guys are having the time of your life-good for you! Did you buy the lord of the rings t-shirt?

lots of love

Answers The works was more decayed than buried in ash, but still spooky. Ben is not fond of flying so he wasn't up for the helicopter ride (we hoped to take him on a glacier helihike instead but nature intervened, more on that later). Rich and I planned the trip back in January, Ben and Gary thought it sounded cool and we invited them along. Much more to post, I'm trying to catch up as we hit internet cafes...stay tuned!
hmmm......... alright, it sounds absolutely beautiful! Was the works place reminiscent of Pompeii? or was the volcanic spewage different?
Why didn't Ben go on the helicopter? Did you meet Ben and Gary out there, or did you plan this trip together? it sounds magnificent!!! would love to be there, but seeing and hearing about it from you is just about as good. Thanks!!!we love you!
yowzaa!!!!! wow-you are hardy souls to climb all that right after such a long trip! but, you were right-it is beautiful-I love that you're sharing it with us! It's semi, not really, but like, being there!?!?!? hahahaha
