I would love to be where you are, its sounds like you are having a blast. We all think of you often and many of my friends are reading your blogs so you have a pretty full on Brighton fan base! I'm glad we've now moved on from mountain climbing for a bit as that was a bit scary!! love you severely and wish you all the best in your next adventure. remind me of the other email to write personal messages. My email is kayeshane1971@yahoo.co.uk.

Dance of the Sun God Your tale of the dance reminds me of the time you me and Andy did the dance of the sun god round the campfire in Scotland that time!
map Got a suggestion - I get a bit confused sometimes with where these places are you talk about. In fact, sometimes exactly which country you;re in at any one time ( no change there, though). What about loading up a map, so we can follow you around? Or is everyone else's geography of South America a lot better than mine? Happy trekking!
Excellent picture Hi mate - excellent picture you sent round - would have been nice to be able to access the rest - what's all this about logging on?? Glad you're making the liver work hard - by the way, (medical student talking now) if you start going a bit yellow, don't write it off as a funny kind of sun tan, OK?...
errr..... Good to see you alive and well Mr B. Fantastic photos, you are so obviously struggling out there, i'll be expecting you back any moment then!!!!
enjoy sir,
Congrats! Well done for the peak Al - sounds like a nightmare, but as we both know, it can only have been hanging on to the story that got you through!! The only question i have though is have you grown a goaty (pic 9)?
Happy Christmas Hi Alex,
A belated Happy Xmas... got there in time for New Year at least ! So how does this blog thing work ? I take it this is where you pick up your email or should I be sending it somewhere else ? Life here tootles on as ever... no fantastic waterfalls or toucans... been busy with all the usual pre-Xmas stuff... then 2 days of bingeing... now back to work (tho working from home which is not so painful) as I'm not wasting any days of holiday on such a boring time of year in London ! Have booked a flight to go and see Emma in Edinburgh in Feb - we're going on a ski club weekend to Braemar together and also get to meet the infamous Angus on the Monday before I leave ! So, one more month to go in Paris - the drivers are still driving me mad - I've developed a new phenomenon of "pedestrian rage" - stopped in the middle of a major road and stuck 2 fingers up at the coach driver 7mm away from my right shoulder trying to hurry me up - the f****** b**** **** ****** **** ******************* !!! Next time when I'm hopefully less enraged I can be calm enough to only stick 1 finger up, so that the b***** F***** b****** gets my message more clearly :-)
Student Life The only way to go - of course I speak from experience. By the way - are you going to Columbia? I was speaking to this Columbian woman yesterday who was telling me that kidnappings of foreigners there are quite common there. It's because they think that Westerners have loads of cash so they can ransom them off later. So maybe if you do, you should make sure you look really poor and rough so they don't take you. Actually, come to think of it, looks from your posting that that's your strategy too! :)
merry christmas! sounds like a fantastic adventure - glad to hear you're enjoying the nightlife abroad as much as you do at home. sightseeing is always best done half-cut in the dark... have a great christmas and new year and look forward to hearing the next installment soon.x
Merry Christmas Hi Alex, really enjoying reading about your travels, just wanted to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, I hope you have a fantastic time and look forward to reading the next instalment of Alex Mears adventures!
Take care, love Dave and Mel xxx
Great time Hi bro - after a shakey start ( though very funny to read ) It sounds like your having an absolutly fantastic time. Have a great time on the mountain for christmas and a brilliant new year. Will update you in the new year regarding junior (to be). Carry on having a great time lots of love Zoe and Rich.
Too Chilled Hmm - "the mountains are beautiful, the beaches are beautiful, the women are beautiful in fact all round it is a pretty attractive place". This all sounds way too holiday-like. I think you need more of a challenge to keep you sharp. Now, on route to/from this remote beach you encountered some bats. And I know you like cooking. Alex, getting served fried snapper which someone else has hunted is beneath you. Thus, your mission, should you choose to accept it.. a lovely bat-dish, caught and prepared by your own fair hands. Think of it as a temporary substitute for the wild boar. I expect to hear about it next time. By the way - I don't have your email. Can you send it round? Cheers man. Enjoy!
Why surprised ? after your failed adventure of navigating from your room to reception in time for a game of basketball, i can say that i am not surprised with your adventure. Hopefully the rest of your trip will be as fab as wel hope!!!
It would appear people should have given you a ticket to Gatwick, a navigation system and dictionaries instead of a lovingly loaded ipod. Oh well, hope you had 32 hours worth of tunes loaded to drown out the flapping of butterfly wings. After five years of travelling with you, I still find it incredibly hard to believe you maintained composure rather than lost your temper at every stage, but hey, we only have your word for it :-)
you ARSE!!!!!!!!! INTREPID! meaning fearless i suppose.Brainless maybe.Knew i should've come with you i'm fluent in arm gesturing,oh and"HEY GRINGO,MOVE"is recognised throughout S.America.
P.S remember to get your back crack and sack done before you hit coca cabana!
Ballardism I was really surprised to read this Alex, I mean the whole thing seems just so out of character for you. You know if there was one person on earth I could have sworn something like this would never happen to it would be you. No honestly, I really, really mean it. Seriously though, it can be traumatic though when someone as normally ordered and regular about their life, such as your good self, comes across a major disruption to their routine such as this. Make sure you take it easy for a couple of days. Asta la vista!
