We started our day early with our driver picking us up at 515. He was 15 minutes late because he had stopped to pick up the others in our group from a different hotel, a couple from Germany and a lady from Chicago. It was about an hour and a half to the border of Nicaragua. We got dropped off there and walked across the border. Getting our exit stamp from Costa Rica and the entrance stamp to Nicaragua. Our guide for the day was very professional and has been doing the tour regularly. Our next van was waiting for us on the Nicaraguan side. We drove into Nicaragua and got a full history lesson about everything from the original people to the revolution from the dictatorship to modern recent issues. We stopped for breakfast on ... read more

Another beautiful day in Costa Rica. Spent the morning touring in our "Buggy". The tour company was "Buggy Tours" of Costa Rica. Brian was our guide. We went about 30 miles over just over 4 hours. I mapped it out with the GPS on my watch, but missed the first part of it. We saw all sorts of agriculture and nature. Pedro liked the brahma cattle. We saw 3 kinds of monkeys. Howler, spider and capuchin monkeys. The howlers were napping and not moving too much. The spider monkeys were more active and the capuchins were moving around and all over. We saw lots of birds. The big owl was very cool! I think it was a spectacled owl. Mary, you will need to correct me if I am wrong. The ride to the beach took ... read more

We spent the day visiting a variety of beaches going south from Playa Panama. Jose Diego was our driver today and he did a great job with the navigation and making sure we had a great time. Dantita Beach and Dante Beach were the first stops. We drove and hiked a vista first and then took a walk on the beach. We stopped at Flamingo Beach and took another walk. Another stop at Brasilito Beach . Then we had lunch in Tamarindo and after we took a short drive took a walk on Playa Longosta. We went back to Tamarindo and took our surf lesson from Iguana Surf Shop. We were in a small group lesson with a couple from France. Kendall was our instructor. We had a busy day touring. It was 60+ and sunny all day. We started with breakfast again at the hotel. The Coliseum was next with a wait in the lines. We toured the Coliseum viewing some of the historical information first and then we went in to tour the inside. Amazing architecture. We took the train from there to San Giovani. After a lunch of pizza we went through Chapel of San Lorenzo. It is the Church with the holy stairs that are said to be originally from Jerusalem from the hall of Pontius Pilate's palace. The stairs were closed for renovation, but there was a window to view the stairs. Afterwards we went to a cafe' nearby as we needed to have a sweet treat while we used the WiFi to look up the ... read more

It was a beautiful day in Rome today. We all slept very well last night. Pedro slept late! Really late! We woke up at 0950. Breakfast was served from 0700 to 1000 at the hotel, so we rushed down. It was a very good start to the day. A full spread of eggs, meats, fresh fruit, pastries and fresh juices. We were glad we did not miss it! We took the "M" to the Vatican. We got there just before 12 and the Basilica was closed today from 1200 to 1400 as they were preparing for the presentation of the Nativity. We walked down to the Castel 'Angelo and did the full tour. We had a snack of pizza for lunch and then it was back to Basilica San Pietro. We wanted to do the climb ... read more
