Welcome to the Yukon! We were up early and on the road again. This time we traveled 184 miles to Watson Lake. We had a couple of stops planned, and oh yes, more road construction and plenty of narrow mountain roads. Our first stop was at the Liard Hot Springs. Jim decided to take a dip in their 120 degree springs. His comment as he entered the water was that it wasn't warm, it was HOT! I opted to take a few pictures instead of getting in. (Boy, you could smell the sulpher ... remember the old chemistry labs in high school?) Back on the road, always looking for more wildlife. So far we have seen plenty, including black bears, mountain sheep, caribou, and today we came across many bison. So many in fact, that we ... read more

I know it has been a few days, so let me catch you up on our travels. Due to limited or no WiFi, I will post as I can. We left Ft Nelson on Wednesday morning and drove to our next campground in Muncho Lake. It was approximately 160 miles, but took a while due to mountain roads and plenty of road construction. By road construction, it means miles of single lane bumpy and dusty roads all being torn up. Just when I didn't think our car or camper could get any dirtier ... wow! While we waited, we talked of the trips that George and Helen made here before the highway was paved. The bumps and dust must have been unbelievable. In comparison, our trip is nothing I should complain about. We stopped at a ... read more

We arrived in Dawson Creek on Sunday afternoon ... one of the last to arrive, but we made it. Our travel caravan will consist of 22 Winnebago motorhomes (counting the 2 host units). We have a total of 42 people. Two days were spent in Dawson Creek as we started to get to know some of our group members, representing the United States and Canada. We have what they call travel meetings everyday, which will go over any instructions for the following day for our travels and suggested sites to see along the way. The Dawson Creek Visitor Center presented a very informative session on the start of the Alaskan Highway. It is hard to imagine the amount of work that was done in less than a 9 month span to get this highway completed during ... read more

We spent two days driving through the Canadian Rockie Mountains. They are absolutely beautiful. At times we were reminded of our drives to Colorado, but at other times these were just awesome to see. We camped one night in Banff National Park, and then traveled all day on Thursday through the Rockies and the Iceland Parkway to Jasper. Lots of pictures, although some were taken through the front windshield of the moving motorhome. I am surprised at how well they turned out. (Just overlook a few "bug spots") We would still be driving if we had to stop for every mountain picture ..... and I just don't think Jim would have done that. We did pull off a couple of times to let the brakes cool down a bit. We are spending two days here in ... read more

We left town a little before 6:00 am on Monday. I was pretty sure I had heard Jim tell someone the other day that we would travel no more than 500-600 miles each day. I should have known that once he gets behind the wheel he doesn't stop! Well, I will correct that .... he did stop, 825 miles later. We pulled off the road in Minot, North Dakota, and found a pull thru site so as not to unhook the car. Stopping involves lowering the jacks, extending the sides, and turning on the St Louis Cardinal baseball game. It had been a long day on the road. We didn't rush to get back on the road this morning, but pulled out by 7:45. Within a couple of hours we were at the Canada border & ... read more

It's time to get organized. One week from today we begin one of the most exciting trips we will most likely ever take. We booked in with a caravan of other Winnebago owners on a 50 day trip to Alaska. Our meet up destination is Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on July 12th. So this week, all of our (maybe I should say "my") planning needs to start to fall into place. I have lists, & some of those lists have lists! The major necessities are covered .... the trip is booked, travel insurance, roadside assistance, passports, and Canadian proof of insurance cards for both the motorhome & the car we are towing. Today I put holds on the newspaper and the mail, and talked with our health insurance and medicine providers about out of country coverage ... read more
