Woke up at around 9.30am, got up and showered, and I met Mark down in the lobby so we could go and get Macca’s brekkie (and use the net). Madi stayed in bed as she had a terrible headache/migraine. Stayed at Macca’s for a while, even after Mark had left, just updating blogs and what not, and then left to take my laptop back to the hostel. From there I caught the subway into Midtown, with the intention on buying a cheap ticket to see something on Broadway that night. When I got up to the ticket window, I was able to buy a 9th row centre ticket to see The Addams Family with Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth at 2pm for about $60!! So I grabbed that and had some time to spare before going ... read more

Finally actually got up when the alarm went off this morning! 9.30 I was up and had a shower, finished getting ready, and then headed off to meet up with Mark and Jon for brekkie, yet again at our favourite diner – Metro Diner! I went for the bacon and eggs option again! Following that, Madi headed down to get her social security number, and Mark, Jon and I went to the American Museum of Natural History to see the Brain Exhibition, and go to the Planetarium. We bought our tickets, and went straight to the Planearium. This show was narrated by Whoopi Goldburg which was pretty cool, and the visual effects were brilliant. However, her voice was quite soothing and as we were pretty much laying in these seats to watch the roof, I was ... read more

This was another day where we continued to press the snooze button. We had planned to get up at around 9 – but that got postponed until 10.30! We got up, showered and ready, and then headed back to the Metro Diner we’d gone to a couple of days earlier. This time I decided to try the pancakes, and they were very good! They were very filling though, so I had a little bit leftover. We’d taken our laptops with us, so we stopped at Macca’s on the way back to use the free Wi-Fi (we bought 2 cokes so they couldn’t kick us out!). After half an hour or so, we took our laptops back to the hostel and left to catch the subway again into Times Square. Once out, we were on a mission ... read more

Sunday morning I got up and dressed, rather late in the morning, and headed to catch the subway towards Times Square. Had a bit of a walk around, and then wondered over to the Box Office at the Shubert Theatre to see if I could get tickets to see the musical Memphis at 3pm. I managed to get a seat up on the 3rd level, 2nd last row. I figured that would do! I had an hour or two to kill, so I had another walk around the Times Square area. I looked in a couple of little shops, then saw a nice looking pizza place, and headed it for a slice of Cheese Pizza. Brilliant! Cannot get enough of Cheese pizza!! Once I’d finished, I headed back out, and decided to have a look in ... read more

When Madi’s alarm went off at 9.30am, we cursed it and wanted to go back to sleep. Feeling a little seedy, we reluctantly got up and started packing our suitcases. We’d booked to check in at our next hostel at 11am, so we got a cab to take us up to 94th to stay at the Candy Hostel, the same hostel I stayed in last time with Michelle! We arrived to be told that the website was incorrect, and we wouldn’t be able to check in until 3pm… That sucked! I was kinda relying on being able to check in early so I could shower there and get ready for the day properly. We headed downstairs to put our luggage in secure lockers, rugged up and headed to find somewhere for breakfast. We found a little ... read more

Day 2 was my first full day in NYC! I woke up early because it was so so hot in our room. We don’t know how to turn our heater off, though I’ve had another fiddle with it. And even with our window open it’s not really cooling the room down at all, you just have to go over to it for some relief! Plus I’m on the top bunk so it’s probably even hotter up here! I made a note to try and find some more summery pjs cheap if I could! I attempted to snooze a bit more, and before I knew it, it was 11! Got up and had a shower, then headed out! Our street is off Central Park, so I had a walk through there. It was so unbelievably pretty with ... read more

After a 2.5 hour delay at LAX, I FINALLY got on my plane to JFK! Was sitting next to a man who was with his family, they were from Merimbula! And on my other side was a woman from LA, who was just going to NYC to visit some friends. They were both really nice! I slept through majority of the flight, waking up in time to see the second half of Life As We Know It, the film where Katherine Heigel and that other guy get left with their best friends baby… It was actually really good! More sleep, and finally arrived in NYC, and saw snow whilst we were landing!! It may have been 11pm at night, but I was soooooo excited!!! We’d already gone through customs in LA, so it was just collecting ... read more

Or should I say forward to the past..? I arrived at Melbourne airport at around 10am, with plenty of time to spare before my flight was due to leave, at 1pm. After checking in my bag, Mum and I headed to good old McDonald’s for a quick bite to eat, where I realised I’d left my credit card at home… No big deal really, I wasn’t planning on using it when I have my travelex card… But would have been nice to have just in case. Needless to say I started to freak out a little bit.. I actually got quite nervous before flying this time, I’ve no idea why… I don’t think I did last time. I said goodbye to Mum – she cried =P – and went through the international gates. Firstly had to ... read more

So, clearly I've been home for a good, long time. A billion things have happened in the meantime, but I still look back on that trip as one of the greatest times of my life. I had so much fun, learned so much about myself, America, the World! I made heaps of friends, the closest of which I still talk to a year and a half on, even with the world between us! I definitely caught the travel bug, though I more want to revisit the places I've been, that I loved, to really do them justice. Unfortunately I don't have money in abundance, and that's generally needed for travel!! But I am heading back to the best city of all - New York City - in just over 2 weeks (Holy crap thats so soon!). ... read more

As we had a late checkout of 2pm, we had our first sleep in in what felt like forever! We packed up all our belongings for the final time, and headed down to the lobby at around 1.30pm. They let us leave our luggage in a storage area, and bought tickets to catch the trolley car down to Manhattan Plaza. The half hour trip took us along the scenic route, along Manhattan beach which was lovely. We found a Victoria's Secret, so we had a good look around there, but there wasn't anything else too exciting there. We went into a CVS to grab our last supply of US candies (yum!) then headed over to a California Pizza Kitchen. Fantastic pizzas, didn't disappoint. We followed it with the biggest sundae I think I've ever shared! Amazing ... read more
